Starbucks is coming confirmed at GIP Kochi. But ofcourse, you may need to wait for another 3 years. But in meantime, more cafes will surely come at India's largest Mall- Lulu Cochin. I am sure, Costa as well as Coffee Beans and Tea Leaves Cafe have every good reason to be part of Lulu Cochin. Starbucks may take time to expand to Tier 2 cities, as they have to concenrate first in Metros like Mumbai, Blore etc, while the others have already invested in Tier 1 and soon moving towards Tier 2

Wellington Lounge Café has the stuff that dreams are made of, that is; if your dreams include creamy, soft, chocolate mousses, melt-in-the-mouth passion fruit mousses, sandwiches, chocolate doughnuts, danishes, cookies and coffee that is brewed to perfection.

The café seems to have hit the right note, barely days since its inception, be it for the service with a smile, the ambience or the delectable munchies on display.

Located in the lobby of Dream Hotel in Kochi, this warm and cozy corner envelopes you like a cocoon, sealing one inside to experience warm service and delicious fare from 11 am to 8 pm. The café is the brain child of Delhi based Executive Chef Amit Vashist who experimented and researched various permutations before arriving at the tasty array of morsels.

Amit has let his creativity shine in the art and presentation of the exotic fare. The ambience is quiet with plush seats, soft music and Vikram Chatwal’s personal favorite artecrafts placed in the alcoves. A selection of eclectic books has been made available to the foodies while they await their servings.

The coffee here is brewed to perfection with espressos, lattes and cappuccinos to satisfy the caffeine addict in you. Whether you are meeting a business associate, a loved one, an old friend or quite simply want to grab a bite in a peaceful ambiance.

The prices are very reasonable, contrary to the opulence on hand. “Any amount of ambience or fancy lights will not make up for the personal touch we offer.” says Amit.

The hotel also has a rooftop high bar with a beautiful view, where barbequed vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are slowly becoming the talk of the town.

Sundays will bring together a pasta counter, Western grill, live salad counter, steaks and a mobile bar drawing huge crowds. The ‘death-by-chocolate’ pastry, that does a waltz on the palate is a definite try for foodies.

Kochi loves the nandan foods....

Kerala is the tourist destination where videsi meets desi cuisine, so whatever cuisine you will like to treat your palate to, Kerala chefs will serve it up with a smile!

Be it Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Arabic, Portugese or just about any cuisine from any country, the chefs trained abroad, are more than able to conjure up the mouth watering dish of your choice.

However, can the Keralites, with their own love for spices, fish mappas and karimeen curry be lured away from their own traditional dishes?

Not a chance. These dishes, along with many more, are widely available throughout the State for anyone who might want to give them a try.

Executive Chef, Amit Vasisht, of the opulent Dream Hotel in Kochi, speaks about his clientele’s palate preferences, “Seafood is king, followed by chicken dishes. The Keralite’s love for Seafood, especially karimeen (peral spot fish), is very pronounced. They prefer their fish done the traditional way with lots of chilly and spice. The fish moilee, naadan chicken curry and chicken Chettinad are just some of the favourites. It is with the idea of introducing new forms of cuisines that the western style barbeque menu was introduced.”

Amit adds, “People are willing to explore this new menu. Tandoori and grilled chicken items are lapped up and the meat and seafood platter also do well. The influence of the traditional cuisine is still visible with dishes like chicken tikka done in Chettinad style marination, tandoori jheenga in curry leaf marinating etc.”

Orma Bose, a model, VJ and a confirmed foodie says, “Outings with friends are a mix of the western and traditional cuisine that includes pizzas, burgers, and chicken tikkas along with fish fry or prawn roast. It satisfies the eclectic group of friends that I have.”

Gokulam Park in Kochi boasts of being a multi cuisine restaurant and enjoys the patronage of a big local crowd.

Executive Chef Rajesh, enlightens us on the cuisine preferences of his diners. He says, “Kerala is known for its love for fish dishes and accordingly, fish dishes are the most popular here. Rice, along with karimeen, pollichatu or vevichatuu is the most popular along with traditional chicken curry.”

The change he too feels is the acceptance of grilled and tandoor items like tawa fish fingers, spicy grilled chicken or fish.

Butter chicken seems to be a favourite among Malayalis and the Chinese menu consisting of noodles and manchurian among others is preferred mostly by children.

Rahul, a sales consultant in EVM Motors, says that he enjoys his north Indian food, burgers, sandwiches and chaat items for dinner or as a snack but says, “Unless I have a traditional meal in the afternoon consisting of rice, sambar and the like, there is a sense of having an incomplete meal.”

So, in the ultimate analysis, traditional cuisine seems to score with the Keralite palate.

Well, NBC has two units. The main one is located in SA ROAD (Sahodhara Ayyappan Road) next to Lotus Eye Clinic, near Kadavanthara Junction. The restaurant is located in same bldg, where Vodafone store is located. The second one is located opposite Shenoys Theatre in MG Road, just side to Cafe Coffee Day, where autos are parked.

Teapot is located in Peter celli street, located very near to Santa Cruz Basilica. The street is very famous, being one of the oldest European street and everyone knows it.

Well, near North Railway station, you have a couple of eatries. Royal court is a good one for Non veggies. Sree Krishna Restaurant is good for veggies. Both are located near the gate.

Well Teapot is located in the side road behind St.Mary's School. Any doubt, the phone number is +91-484-2218035.

http://maps.google.co.in/maps?q=St+M...erala&t=h&z=16

There you will see the signboard Petercelli Street, which is logically a continous part of Princess Street. Ofcourse the locals are pretty aware of the bldg. Its a main hub of Englishmen and Europeans.

And here is the review about Teapot

Quote:
Located on Princess Street in Fort Kochi, The Teapot is an amazingly cute little tea shop with beautiful décor and a relaxed atmosphere. Situated in the heritage zone of Fort Kochi, a place that blends both historical and cosmopolitan temperaments, The Teapot is pretty easy to find with signboards guiding you to the restaurant.

What grabs your attention as you enter The Teapot is the huge, glass centre table supported by an old, elegant tea bush, about six feet in diameter. Tea is served in cups, mugs and by the teapot here. Complementing the theme of the place, teapots of various sizes are seen hanging from hooks all around.

While the mesmerizing collection of over 100 teapots and kettles will keep you engrossed, you will wonder at their immaculate designs and offbeat shapes taking you back to a bygone era. Paintings and art work also maintain the cup and the saucer as their muse. Interestingly, there’s even a collage made of teabags here, an artistic creation by a French artist. Tea chests double up as tables with some proudly claiming that they have been produced in India. There seems to be so much more than just tea on offer here.

What you get – What you get at The Teapot is quite obvious. As Sanjay who runs the joint says, “Right from the name of the shop to our décor and our menu, everything is connected to tea.”

The Teapot serves varieties of tea flavors. Tea with a hint of cardamom, Darjeeling tea, tea from the Nilgiris, Masala tea and even the with the local flavors of Kerala are available here. The cost varies according to the size of the pot. For example, a local blend would cost around Rs. 15 per cup whereas a special flavored tea would cost around Rs. 40 per cup. Iced tea is also served. Short eats like sandwiches, omelets, pastries and desserts like Death by Chocolate (must-try) are there for you to munch along.

Pancakes with banana, a slice of orange cake, banana and walnut cake, coffee cake and chocolate cake are popular choices here. For those looking for something Indian, there’s appam (hoppers) and vegetable stew as well. Fish and chicken based dishes with rice are there too for around Rs. 175. Vegetarian meals (rice and curry) cost around Rs. 125.

Our verdict – The Teapot is a world in itself. It’s a place where experimentation and expertise combine to give you a unique experience. It’s a cafe ideal for you to visit after a relaxed journey of sight-seeing in Cochin. You can take a break from the heritage walk and fortify yourself with a hot cup of flavored tea. Plus, it’s not a boring place to be in. It introduces you to the world of tea including strainers, tea cozies, milk jugs and sugar pots; the entire tea paraphernalia is on display. Drinking a cup of tea seems to have much more significance here. A perfect place to sit, sip and just relax! Service is average and parking space is available.

Well, about other eatries in Fort Kochi, a walk in Princess Street, you can decide.... Its almost like streets in colonial Paris lined up numerous European styled cafes and side eatouts.... It depends on your tastes and interests..... I recommend a few;

1. Mango Tree, located again in Princess street, on second floor of House of Yesudas Bldg (you can identify with Cafe Coffee Day board, located downstairs). It offers a unique feel as the second floor is built around trunk of a mango tree that starts from courtyard. You will have a feel, as if you are on a tree top...... The restaurant is famous for its fishes, mostly prepared in Kerala and Goan styles.

2. Kashi's Art Cafe, located at Burgher Street, at parallel to entrance of Princess Street near Tower Road. The Kashi's is extremely famous for its art gallery and the art cafe located inside its garden is equally famous for its chocolate cakes and pre-set Menu of the day, mostly Fused Indo-European dishes.

3. Koder House, located opposite Fort Kochi Gardens in Tower Road, is an iconic Bldg. If you are looking for Jewish food, this is the best place. Its the only Kosher Certified restaurant in Kerala and offers ethnic rare Cochin Jewish foods.

4. Upstairs, located opposite to Santa Cruz, is a good choice for those who love Italian foods, particular traditional hand stretched Italian Pizzas and Pastas that differs from what you get from Pizza Huts or Domino's.

5. Shala, located near to Teapot is a best option for tasting authentic Kerala food in Kerala style. They are located next door to Teapot.

6. Bristow House near Beach is extremely famous for live evening fresh sea and freshwater fish grills. Its equally famous for lavish buffets, but costs slightly higher.

7. Le Colonial, also near to Santa Cruz is famous for its too authentic traditional Portuguese dishes. Normally in India, we get Portuguese dishes in form of Goan food, which is Indianized version. This one offers traditional Portuguese foods. But again cost is upscale.

Well, I used to say, its almost a Food Revolution happening in Kochi, past one year. Along with burgeoning number of restaurants and cafes, one segment that is growing parallel is Food Information sites in virtual world.

After success of Yummybay.com, Kerala's first multi-restaurant food ordering and delivery site, focused in Kochi, another online site for helping customers to know about restaurants, menu, costs, location and reviews

Quote:
If you happen to know the name of a hotel or restaurant in Kochi recommended for its fine cuisine, locating it is easy with a search on Google. But if you don’t know it’s name here is an easy way to find it. Log on to www.dineyourfood.com.

Dineyourfood.com, an exclusive website on hotels and restaurants in Kochi, is an initiative by Anuj Chiramel and Melvin Mathew, two MBA graduates who intend to help food lovers by providing information on food outlets and help them make the choice of their palate. “We want to help foodies to get rid of all the confusion pertaining to where, what, when to dine when it comes to choosing a proper place. We expect food enthusiasts in the city to make use of this platform,” Anuj and Melvin said. “We mainly target internet-savvy people with high income,” they said. Searching on the site is so easy. “If you want to locate a food outlet on MG Road, you can find it by just typing MG Road on the search bar,” they said.

The website also helps find outlets offering different varieties of food such as seafood, vegetarian, non-veg, North Indian, continental and so on. The search results will contain names of hotels, contact numbers, menu and price, route maps, whether cards are accepted or not, parcel service, parking facility and review by visitors,” Anuj and Melvin said. Dineyourfood.com also offers advertising options for restaurants looking to generate more visibility among a targeted audience. “We have already listed 105 eateries and we plan to increase the number to 250 within a month. We will also cater to the needs of other major cities in Kerala soon,” they said.

Yummybay caters to Trivandrum, Calicut, Idukki, Thrissur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Pathanamthitta, Palghat and Kottayam too. It is wrong to say that Yummy bay is focused in Kochi

It was started in Kochi and bulk of its restaurants as of now, is from Kochi region. Check their FB page or website.... They have around 200 restaurants from Kochi alone....

Ofcourse its nice to see they expanding... More choice for us and to understand where is where and what to expect from there
