Dunno, but the render took about 10 minutes on MacBook Pro (late 2007 model). However most of the parts are NURBS, not polygons

You know I looked into Rhino + Grasshopper a little while ago and didn't notice the student discount. Maybe I will get it sometime this year.

Does grasshopper cost anything?

Excellent renders by the way. I do such basic stuff with google sketchup, but I do want to get into the narrow field of architectural concept art someday. I just lack ability with a 3D render system. Right now I do graphic design, mostly 2d media and a tiny bit of web stuff.

Nah, Grasshopper is absolutely free. What is more I'm into parametric design and electronics in use of architecture language. There are many good plugins to Grasshopper (huh, plugin inside the plugin - Inception ;D) like Kangaroo (which adds physics to the 3d world) and Firefly (which can be used to mix Grasshopper and Rhino with Arduino board).

Firefly:

Kangaroo + Firefly:

This is a video from the workshop (which were at my faculty of architecture) where I have started my jurney with Firefly and Arduino (and you can see me there ;D)

Thanks for the info. have you ever tried Blender for 3D work? I tried, but just can't get past the difficulty curve and I don't like the idea that few professional companies accept it compared to lightwave or 3DSmax.

If you have touched blender, would you say Rhino is easier than blender? Anyone else tried it?

Firstly, Blender is Polygonal 3d software. Rhino use NURBS. The thing is that both have different 3d environment. I tried Blender many years ago and it is sort of pain in the ass when it comes to the Arch-modelling or Arch-viz. If it was so easy and awesome then student's of architecture would use it. From what I see none of them at my faculty use it. Usally it is all made in 3ds Max + vRay, Rhino + vRay, Cinema 4D + vRay or Sketchup + vRay.

In my opinion Blender is really too primitive in function - again, in my opinion. If you love Blender and love creating something in it then good for you . Everyone should try many softwares out there and work in the app they like the most .

Small (but always) update of the last work. I wasn't happy with the materials last time...

Alright so with student discount I can get Rhino for 195...man V-ray is expensive though, its like 250 or something with student discount.

Maybe I should find a trial or something to make sure I can learn to like it.
