Wow, thank's for the info. I read the section on air quality impacts, I had no idea!

Because of the 'mitigation measures' it seems that maybe the concrete structure is topped out, or close to topping out? The rendering looks like the top section will be a large mech space, open to the elements, and possibly a light steel structure?

Here is a good link if you want to read more about the project: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/env_review/durst.shtml

This is how it will be

One option was to slice off the top , but it wasn`t necessary after they had done some tests.

It is true that the rear corner of the building isn`t square.

As you can see on this floor plan the north side of the building isn`t parallel with the southern side. This also affects the courtyard making it non-square.

I guess they made it non-square because it gives the balconies facing the courtyard a better view of the courtyard and the Hudson river.

No, but the concrete is topped out. The top of the pyramid is going to consist of several steel-only mechanical floors.

It would be an interesting vantage point to have the apartment with the balcony at the very apex of the interior section. You could have an unimpeded view out and down without anyone being able to see you from above.

Construction Update (FIELD CONDITION)

Last Friday, BIG's 32-story, 709-unit pyramid "topped out" at its final height of 450 feet. The project takes the form of a pyramid, with the sloped face oriented towards the Hudson River and the adjacent park. A rectangular void has been cut through the center of the pyramid form, creating a landscaped courtyard and further opportunities for facades that face the prime water views.

The project sits at the western fringe of what has become star architects row along West 57th Street. When completed in 2015, the project will join nearby recent or future buildings by Norman Foster, Christian de Portzamparc, Jean Nouvel, Rafael Vinoly, Robert Stern, and SHoP Architects.

Looks like there's film on the curved cladding.

The triangle tip will be made out of steel, so technically this is not T/O yet.
