W57 Pyramid Wins Final Approval For Its 936,000 Sq. Ft.

Quote:
West 57th Street pyramid

Durst Organization’s glass pyramid tower was issued a permit for a 936,723-square-foot project, which will contain 711 residential units as well as 10 retail units.

The City Planning Commission approved the Bjarke Ingels-designed project in December 2012, but it has been held up over a dispute between the developer and the area’s community board over how much affordable housing should be provided.

The developer solicited funds for the building through a visa program that gives green cards to foreign investors who put money into U.S. projects.

Earlier this week, the retail space, which will have ceilings up to 27 feet tall and units ranging from 875 to 27,000 square feet, hit the market.

Meanwhile, construction has moved above the street level:

Enough of this "affordable housing!" People need to stop acting like living in certain neighbourhoods is some god-granted right and be realistic. It's mind-boggling.

Come on! This is 57th street afterall. It not like there are at least 3 buildings going up and 1 completed with penthouses reaching or exceeding $100 Million! At least it forces the developers to build the housing themselves rather than forcing the city to repeat the mistakes of the past (40's to 70's).

We'll see, IMO it's a great design for the height. Inlcluding the green area inside. And it will draw attention from a distance for sure.

I think this tower is designed well for its height. If it was stretched out to a supertall I think it would look bad.

The location of this project ensures it won't be blocked from sight. Look at the last page, this building will be right next to the river, where there are only a few tall buildings.

^ Just as you see the Mercedes house, you will see the pyramid from the hudson in plain site. It will look fantastic once this thing rises.

This part of the area is changing drastically especially with this (Pyramid), Mercedes House and TF Cornerstones 606 W 57th street. It will have its own vibe architecturally like the projects rising along the highline. That is what's great with NYC. There is no city like it on earth as far as diversity in architectural styles. I'm sure we will see something more like these projects rise in the area when the opportunity presents itself.

i'm convinced. I should have realized it was way over by the river. I think it will look fine in that area. I drive down HHP and West Side Hwy all the time, it's my route from up here. Thanks guys, for explaining the location

Is that Fordham being constructed to the left? Looks nearly identical to 432 park rising from this angle.
