whats the point in talking about impossible things? you can take IT out of bangalore but not bangalore out of karnataka. it is karnataka which gave bangalore vidhana soudha etc etc.

I dont think creating such small issue thread will help the forum. these threads will hardly come up. We should merge small threads into one, otherwise fragmented info is nothing but waste.

No fee hike at IIM-B
TNN, Feb 10, 2011, 05.13am IST
Quote:
BANGALORE: There'll be no fee hike for the flagship two-year PGP at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore next year. The IIM-B board which met here on Wednesday decided to retain the existing fee structure for 2011-12. IIM-B charges Rs 13 lakh for the two-year programme.

The board is said to have accepted majority of the recommendations of the three committees appointed by the human resource development ministry on governance, research and faculty and fund-raising. The institute will send its amended memorandum of association and rules to the HRD ministry, paving the way for smaller board and society.

A new performance appraisal scheme, which has caused a lot of anxiety among a section of the faculty, also came up for discussion. IIM-B board chairman Mukesh Ambani had set up a committee to address some of the external and internal governance issues at the premier B-school.

Vagus hospital keeps 10 beds for poor
BANGALORE: The health capital of India has a reassuringly human side to it. Yet another of Bangalore's hi-tech hospitals opened its doors to the poor.

The 150-bed Vagus Super Speciality Hospital in Malleswaram will reserve 10 beds for the under-privileged. Established at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore, the hospital has 24/7 laboratory service. It also has MRI, digital X-ray, CRT, Cathlab, Cardiac CT, 4D-Ultrasound, Ophthalmology, Ventilator, Dialysis, Mammography and ambulance services for emergency cases.

Hospital chairman Dr K A Ramegowda said: "Our goal is to provide cost-effective medical care to all sections of the society. We have put in place the best equipment and faculty and reserved 10 beds for patients from economically weaker sections who will be provided treatment free of cost. They just have to buy medicines. We also plan health camps in rural areas every three months."

Home minister R Ashoka said: "Hi-tech and super-speciality hospitals should provide cost-effective healthcare to poorer sections of society. Just as Bangalore is known for IT and BT, it should also become well known as a health city. Patients from Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as African and Arabian countries come here for medical care because of the world-class equipment and expertise," he said.

Excellent thread. Sathya Sai Super-specialty hospital and the General Hospital in Whitefield are completely free for everyone. There are no cash counters at all, I've heard. Hospital also offers excellent telemedicine and after-care counselling facilities.

The new hospital in Marathahalli is the 'Yashodha Medi Care'.

http://www.yashodamedicare.com/

Similarly I see claddings in Sarjapur Outer Ring Road (opp. RMZ ecospace) with 'Sri Sathya Sai Hospitals'...I think they might be setting up a new hospital here...

Premji's dream university from July

Quote:
Azim Premji University, planned by Wipro's billionaire chairman to cater exclusively to the education and development sectors, is likely to become operational in the coming academic year.

The Azim Premji Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation under whose aegis it is being set up, said on Wednesday the university would launch three courses in the first year of operation, to begin this July.

The university will start functioning from rented premises, a nine-storied building near Electronic City on the outskirts in Bengaluru.

Once its own campus, under development on 100 acres off the Sarjapur Road will be ready in the next 18 months, the varsity will be consolidated in a single campus.

In the first year, Azim Premji University will offer three MA programmes -- in education, in development and in teacher education. Each will have a two-year duration.

There will be an all-India entrance test across 38 centres in the country on April 17.

A bachelor's degree holder in any discipline will be eligible and selection will be on performance in the written test and a subsequent interview.

The test will examine the candidate's proficiency in English, analytical ability, general and social awareness, and knowledge of relevant subjects, said the university.

In the first year of admission, the intake of all these three programmes put together will be 2,000, to be raised to 2,500 in the fifth year, said Anurag Behar, co-CEO of Azim Premji Foundation. He said the fee structure was being worked out and would be announced in the coming weeks.

The university has hired 28 faculty members, including a few foreigners and some Indians who've willingly returned from the US to join.

The curriculum has been developed with an eye to the requirements of India, said Behar.

New ayurveda health centre in city

Quote:
BANGALORE: "We have to change the perception that traditional medicine is witch doctor's medicine," said Ratan Tata, chairman of the Tata Group.
Speaking after inaugurating the new 100 bed Ayurveda and Integrative Health Centre (IHC) at the Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (IAIM) in the city
on Thursday, Tata said both traditional and western medicine must be integrated like a 'fusion' for better treatment.
He said that Ayurveda can be pursued as it did not require any adaptation or compromise and must be presented in a scientific manner. He added that this was a new and exciting field and he shared the enthusiasm as 'it enhanced Indian heritage'.
But Sam Pitroda, advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations, said that Indian heritage was not very 'sexy' and hence was not getting its due attention.
Stating that he was a firm believer in traditional medicine, he said that Ayurveda needs to be promoted. Citing that there would be a crisis within the next 20 years in the field of health care, he said that the western style of 'five star' and hitech hospitals would not be able to fulfil all the requirements. He said that Ayurveda and traditional methods are low cost, sustainable and reliable medicine.
He said that it was a conscious decision taken by a few to ensure that they bring in Information Technology and traditional methods together. He said that there must be more focus to provide best health care for the bottom of the pyramid.

Apollo reclaims The Cradle

Erstwhile The Cradle now rechristened Cloudnine

The Cradle, the boutique hospital for maternal care and newborns, has now been rechristened Cloudnine. This follows the founding member of the neo-natal hospital parting ways with Apollo Hospitals which owns the brand ‘The Cradle’.

The Cradle was a venture of Kids Clinic (Bangalore) Pvt Ltd, owned by Dr Kishore, and Scrips N Scrolls India, a company into property development and investments. And, now Kids Clinic will operate the Cloudnine hospitals. Apollo had licensed the brand ‘The Cradle’ to this group.

With investment plans of Rs 75 crore over the next year or so, it plans to open one hospitals in northern and one in south-eastern in Bangalore. The hospital aims to have a chain of neo-natal and maternity care hospitals. After setting up the hospital in the city, it will start a hospital in Mysore.

In another two years, Cloudnine will mark its presence in Mysore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi, Kozhikode, Hyderabad and Mumbai. “We are looking at a total investment of about Rs 100 crore on the new 30-40 bed centres with a staff strength of 120 in the next 18-20 months,” said M A Rohit, Director, Cloudnine.

The Cradle entered Bangalore about four years ago with a unit in southern Bangalore.

Meanwhile, through Apollo Health and Lifestyle Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd — the flagship parent firm, the Apollo Hospitals Group is establishing a large network of retail day to day healthcare clinics and boutique birthing centres across the country. As part of the group’s objective to expand its operations overseas, a number of similar facilities are being set up in neighboring countries as well.

It started The Cradle in Kerala about six months ago and it has been in Hyderabad for about four months. It has also set up a unit in Delhi.
