Dredging of Dagupan rivers to start soon
Posted on February 5, 2011 - Filed Under Inside News, News | Leave a Comment

DREDGING activities to clean up Dagupan City’s rivers will start soon as work Task Force Kalikasan's work in neighboring Binmaley town is completed.

City Agriculturist Emma Molina said the city government is now just waiting for the dredging machine, owned by the provincial government which organized Task Force Kalikasan, to be moved to Dagupan.

The city government of Dagupan will shoulder the cost of the machine’s oil, maintenance and food for the members of the Task Force that will carry out the dredging work.

Molina, speaking over the radio program Pantontongan Tayo, said the rivers are now ready for dredging following the dismantling of fishing structures in the areas of Salapingao, Pugaro, Carael and Lucao

Meanwhile, the city’s own dredging machine, which is currently undergoing repair, will also be used in some areas, including Dawel, Tanap and Bonuan Gueset.

She added that the so-called “skylab” structures that are still visible will be before the dredging operations begin.

BETTER PRODUCTION

Molina said the city’s fish industry is expected to benefit from the dredging with improved production.

“Mas ombaleg so produksyon kasumpal to tan antokaman ya abalang natan et naalmo da met lamlamang,” she said.

Meanwhile, several fish pen operators have decried the demolition of their fish pens which is being implemented together with a one-year moratorium on fish pens imposed by the city government.

But Molina pointed out that the city’s river system has long been abused and polluted by the fish pen operators who have done nothing to alleviate the situation.

After the dredging, Molina said the fish industry can begin to engage in raising high value products like malaga and talakitok in addition to bangus, the city’s trademark product.

Dagupan produces about 12 tons of bangus everyday, which is about 50% of the market demand.

BACK TO FISH PONDS

Meanwhile, Molina also called on fish farmers to return to fishpond operations to give the city’s rivers time to “breathe”.

Most fishponds have been converted into “transition ponds” where bangus fingerlings are cultivated to a certain size and then transferred to the fish pens.

Many fishpond owners have since shifted to fish pen operations along the rivers because it is deemed cheaper. About P1 million is needed to develop a hectare of fishpond, while only about a small fish pen requires much smaller capital.

The city has about 1,000 hectares of fishponds, of which 80% are being targeted for revival, according to Molina.http://http://sundaypunch.prepys.com...to-start-soon/

FOR 101 years now, the Cape Bolinao lighthouse stands proud atop Punta Piedra Point in Barangay Patar in Bolinao, Pangasinan, guiding ships and vessels cruising the international passage along the South China Sea.

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Feb. 9 (PNA) Philippine News — The province of Pangasinan is fast gaining reputation as a favorite tourist destination and venue for national events and convention.

This was disclosed Monday by Governor Amado Espino Jr. in his state of the province address (SOPA) before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on Monday.

Espino said this came from those who visited the province and enjoyed the “unique Pangasinan experience,” including the warm hospitality of the people.

Corollary to this is the fact that Pangasinan topped in the number of tourist arrivals last year among all provinces in the Ilocos Region.

Last year, the refurbished Sison Auditorium and the Narciso Ramos Sports and Cultural Center (NRSCC), in tandem with other hotels and support facilities around the capitol area, served as venue for regional and national events, he added.

Even the well-respected and internationally-acclaimed PETA theatre group has discovered Sison auditorium and had performed twice there before students, professionals and other theatre enthusiasts from all over the province.

The PETA has developed a fondness for the place and has threatened to keep coming back for more theatre performances, Espino revealed.

While such activities are concrete signs of Pangasinan’s growing reputation as a convention, cultural and sports center, the same events also “serve to highlight our inadequacies”, Espino said.

He said it has become obvious that “we need more and better conference facilities, billeting areas, food outlets, shops and other support services”.

He added that while they have encouraged the private sector to invest in these facilities, the province is doing its own share in filling the gaps by building facilities for tourists.

The provincial government is now building a 1,500 capacity Training Center just beside the Girl Scouts Building within the capitol grounds which is now almost complete and will soon become operational.

He said the provincial government, in partnership with the private sector, is about to start the construction of standard and family-type cottages within the compound of the province-owned Capitol Resort Hotel, to beef up its rooming capacity.

On the other hand, a newly completed golf driving range is the latest attraction in the Capitol Resort Hotel.

At the same time, he said the provincial capitol, undoubtedly the best in the whole country, continues to awe and attract tourists and visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

He announced that the capitol beach area has now become a favorite family picnic and recreation destination, with its beach sheds, public toilets and baths, and wide, well-lighted, and secured playgrounds and activity area, all free of charge and open to the general public 24 hours a day on a first-come-first served basis.

The governor noted that there are now a growing number of local government units and private individuals who are now undertaking more tourism-related activities such as product exhibits, cultural shows, information drives and establishing their own product and tourist assistance center.

The private sector, the governor said, has responded to the call for better and globally competitive hotels and restaurants, tour services and even medical tourism services, as shown by the growing number of DOT-accredited private tourism establishments and support facilities from only five such facilities three years ago to 24 in 2010.

“Still, we cannot aggressively promote Pangasinan until we have adequate and quality facilities, amenities and services present in strategic areas around the province.

He mentioned that the provision of faster and more efficient means of transportation, such as a commercial airport, has also become more urgent. (PNA)

Not to rain on your parade, but I think we'd like to see more articles about and photos of roadways, bridges, airports/seaports happening in Pangasinan in this thread, not about malls and other buildings. There are other threads suited for those. This section of SSC is for "Transportation and Infrastructure" projects/developments/improvements and other related, relevant, and pertinent matters.

More mega projects set for Pangasinan
Posted on December 30, 2009 - Filed Under Headlines, News | Leave a Comment

A GOOD BEGINNING FOR 2010

NOTWITHSTANDING the election next year and its consequent ban on public infrastructure projects for a certain period, several "mega projects" are set for implementation in Pangasinan.

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director Leonardo Quitos, also vice chairman of the Regional Development Council (RDC), said the biggest of these projects is the P4.2 billion re-regulating pond, which is a major component of the P7-billion Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (ARIIP).

The other mega projects are the Alaminos Regional Airport costing P467 million (See related story on page 1) and the Sual Port worth P385.5 million.

These three projects, plus the proposed Pangasinan Industrial Park between Alaminos City and Sual, are ready for implementation with their respective feasibility studies already completed, according to Quitos.

The ARIIP, once completed, will become one of the country's biggest irrigation projects with an expected service area of between 30,000 to 40,000 hectares of land.

Of the more than P7 million budget for ARIIP, more than one half would go to the construction of the re-regulating pond, which is 300 meters long and 300 meters wide and 12 meters in height.

The re-regulating pond, financed from a loan granted by China's Import and Export Bank, will harness the stored water of the San Roque Dam in San Manuel town, instead of just flowing downstream and emptying at the Lingayen Gulf.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the re-regulating pond was held in November last year.

For the Sual Port, Quitos said the opening of sealed bids has been scheduled this month.

The winning bidder will build Phase 1 of the port costing P80 million.

For the Pangasinan Industrial Park, Quitos said Phases I and II of the project are already being prepared for implementation.

Another project that will cross large areas of Pangasinan is the P14-billion Tarlac – La Union Expressway, which will be rolled out by a public-private sector partnership and set for completion in 2020.

This toll road will be linked to the Subic-Clark- Tarlac Expressway and is expected to cut the travel time from La Union to Manila by three hours.

Quitos also noted that a feasibility study for the Tri-City Ferry Project that will link Dagupan, Alaminos and San Fernando across the Lingayen Gulf was started last year.

2009 PROJECTS

In 2009, the national government poured a total of P1.47 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Pangasinan.

This includes P409 million for national roads and bridges, P256 million for flood control and drainage; P542 million for irrigation facilities; P62 million for school buildings; and P198 million for national and districts hospitals.

Quitos said these projects are considered "interventions" by the national government and do not include "interventions" undertaken by the Local Government Units.—LM
sorry for this news ,its too late . pero as of now lahat ng mga projects na yan ay ongoing na po ang mga contruction .
