how do you see israel in 50 years??
I would be interested to have your point of view about the matter.
My pronostic is that israel will still exist (good news) but that it won't be democratic anymore.I predict a iraniian like religious regime with most the seculars and arabs leaving the country. Concerning the conflict, i think there will be a palestinian state in west bank. The decreasing number and implication of the american jewish community leading the USA to force israel to peace. What is your scenari? |

Well, that's a big question to deal with... Idon't think anyone can give a straight answer which would be acceptable.
In my honest opinion, Israel will probably go the way Lebanon went and cave into a civil war, I can't be sure over what will be the cause, But at one point, the religious factions will turn the secular out of power, or at least will have an attempt to do so, which will launch an uprising. as for our neighbors to the east. I see a Palestinian state not int the next 50 years but in the next 10. The global movement of one-sided acceptence of 67' indipendent Palestine will evantualy bring the government to it's knees, and Israel will be forced to submit to the 67' like two-states solution it's been avoiding so far. Radicals on both Right and Left of the political map would be quite upset bu that, I'm sure. As for the economy. Well, the current rate keeps the rich richer and drop the poor even lower, while every side is living off the backs of the middle class, At this rate, we can start taking notes from the Egyptians, because that's where we're heading boys...

Jesus Christ, you guys are so fucking fatalistic. Civil war? Theocracy? Really? I don't think either will come to bear. Not all religious Jews in Israel are haredi, first off. And second of all, not all (or even most) religious Jews are anti-Zionist. I think Israeli society will become more religious in nature (speaking for the Jews). If the religious people have all the babies, then demographically, they will make up the majority. And if they become the majority and feel that having a more religious-oriented government suits their interests, then that's what will happen. That's the essence of democracy. Democracy can involve separation of church and state, but this isn't necessarily a prerequesite for democracy.
If people want Israel to remain secular-ish in nature, then the non-religious need to start having children as well. I don't see the religious groups in Israeli society ever completely doing away with the status quo; after all, many of them benefit from handouts from the government. And the government gets much of the money for these handouts from taxes. So at the end of the day, someone needs to work and to generate wealth. |

hope this will come true!About palestinian state - it will be established soon, but the question is whether it will survive... You know how modern revision of "optimist/pessimist" definition sounds? "Pessimist is one who says that it cannot be worse then it is now while optimist believes that it still might be much worse"... Israeli future for decades to come cannot be modelled independently of the overall situation in the world that today seems to be extremely unclear. Economical defeat of North America and ageing Europe will entail growing tensions and dramatic revision of very basic principles of integration of what we call "The West" (and Israel used to consider itself a part of it). Common isolation and fragmentation will be acomplished with growing willingness to get rid of became-unnecessary allies and yesterday's commitments. In this situation Israel will be abandoned alone for its fate and its obligations as "Western club" member, especially avoidance of use of "unproportional force" will be quickly replaced with unlimited "defence only" agenda. Economical globalization already leaded to the fast development and huge enforcement of countries and societies, whose traditions, historical aspirations and approach to "Individuality vs. State" question are awfully different from those we used to recognize as "Western". Now, if you put all this on the background of threatening climate changes and developing global food-stuffs deficit as well as fast growth of population in so-called "Third world" - the only thing you will recognize is how unpredictable situation will be. |

The per cent of religious jews grew from 6%(1948) to 8%(2010) by some statistics there is 1 "hozer betshuva" for every 3 "hozrim be sheela"

I think you all wrong. Israel will be almost like it's today. No civil war, no rich poor conflicts and nothing like happening now in Egypt.
The arab population in the north and south of Israel will grow dramaticly. Some areas in the north and south will be kind of closed to jews becouse they will afrait to go there, not by law (even today there are som roads that jews don't go on them becouse of the attacks from local arabs). There will be Palestinian independed state. Not sure that in 67 borders. That's pretty much what will be in 50 years. What will be in 80-100 years? Well i think that Israel will not exist, at least not as a jewish state, not under current flag, not under current identity and nationality. I mean maby our children and grandchildren will live here but under the rule of arab country. I believe that the arab majority will take control eventually. There will be a civil war between us and them, many will die, many will turn to refugees in other countries. Becouse of our bad image in the world not many countries will be happy to accept Israeli refugees im afrait that the majority will die. I hope im wrong. |

Never mind!Personally I'm very optimistic (according to definition of "optimist" I've described above). Gogh-Magog war is coming - take pop-corn and catch your place on Meggido hills... |

I think being pessimistic is part of the Jewish character......
I think that Haredim will integrate and their kids eventially won't be so religious. Why? - Haredim will grow in numbers, and this money provided by the state so that they spend years and years in the yeshivot wont be enough. It would be bankrupcy for the State. - Not matter how brainwashed, kids are not stupid and curious by nature. The bigger their community the more exposed thy will be by force to the mainstream Israeli society. Mea Shearim is too small. Or the whole Beit Shemesh. I think Arab-Israelis will be just fine! Economically Israle has a bright future....and the gap between poor and rich is largely (IMO) due to the lack of "enthusiasm" from some sectors of society. Aka, Haredim and Arabs. |

Lol, Israel will be there. Just like in the past 6000 years. ![]() But I honestly think there will be less and less Muslim in 50 years cause there will be lots of wars with the world and islam countries - eg Christians countries vs Muslim countries. Hindus vs Muslims, and so on... lots of anti Muslim riots in many countries will leading explusion/mass killings of Muslim definately! But hey, that's what I think what will happens in 50 years. Not because "you guys think I am anti Muslim" when I am not.

I think it will be bigger, a lot more populous, and conservative than it is now.
Anyway, I wish Israel all the best. |

If Israel acts now and makes painful concessions to Palestinians and Syrians it might have a bright future as an independent, free and wealthy state surrounded by democracies. A smart Israel should not wait for the US to become so weak internationally that it needs to pressure Israel into these concessions! It might be too late by then, because if Israel continues its policies of the past decade and religious and army illusionists continue to run the country - relying on the shrinking superpower US - Israel might put its existence into question.
Personally, I hope that we will see Israel in 50 years time to peacefully coexist with its neighbor countries which by then might have become democracies. But for that Israel needs to change its attitude completely. Occupying Palestine and parts of Syria is really an anachronism. Israel also brings the US into great difficulties with its policies which has implications for Europe and beyond. What I find really worrying are Americans who settle in the West Bank for religious reasons thereby bringing a state in danger that others have built in the past decades. |

I don't see it at all, I see Palestine. The land will go back to its owners. I don't mind seeing Palestinians and Israelis living peacefully together (if that's possible) in a Palestinian State though.

Well, that's an option. Yet, I don't see a unified country emarging in the future. We're not in the 19th century anymore. Countries (Israel included) don't just vanish off the map, The UN won't allow it. Two states, one Israel and other Palestine, is what seems the most acceptable solution by a major part of the world.
