Yohannes IV Palace, Mekelle

This looks like Abraha Castle, but it's labeled Yohannes

Yes there is a steady flow and it's been growing, but the numbers are WAY too low considering the potential. The country should easily be attracting 5 million tourists a year, but the negative image, ignorance by outsiders and relatively underdeveloped tourism infrastructure hurt tourism.

Thats sad because the architecture of Ethiopia's castles rival many European castles in my opinion.

Dungur ruins, Axum. Locally known as Palace of Makeda (Queen of Sheba) - there's controversy whether it really is or not though.

What it looked like prior to crumbling:

Apparently this was not the largest of the four (or was it three?) palaces in Axum, but the Italians built roads right through the middle of the largest.

That just infuriates me!
Those Mofos were in the country just 5 years but in that time, they destroyed artifacts, stole others, gassed people, etc. Makes me sick.

Good stuff, part of the Mentewab Palace is very similar to a Samanid tomb, any info on this? I remember reading the Gonderines employed Indian masons(read Persianate Mughals), which would explain the resemblance.

Indian, Arab and Portuguese masons have been hired to design a lot of the castles.
