I agree with the majority of the posters, the A380 looks like a flying whale, it doesn't have the sleekness that the 747 series aircraft present. Its that "big forehead" that gives me a sour look every time I see it. Good thing the A350 will look sleek unlike its older brother the A380.

That's what Boeing loves to do (Thinking about the B-52...)

For all those "A380 is beautiful" posters, I can only say I hope future A380 models are going to look way better coz they now look as absurd as 747SPs. I agree that efficiency is the most important thing but given they both are quite efficient we can think about something else

Because Boeing is hedging most of it's bets on airlines moving to 787 size aircraft operating more frequencies out of more airports & Airbus is banking on the less frequencies to the larger airports with the A380. The 747-8i is just another option there if airlines want it. Why spend an absolute fortune on a clean sheet design if your focus is shifting to a slightly different strategy to in the past?

I really don't think 90% of the paying public care what the plane looks like to be honest. The interior will be the new sky interior so it's not as though they can whinge about that. In all honesty, the design of the 747 is timeless, most elegant looking airliner ever built, period.

Regarding the commercial rivalry between the both aerospace giants and the range of models they are offering, I don't give a damn, the clients (airlines) will say who is the best model, if there is such thing as the best airplane, judging by the orders and profit made on both parties - the manufacturer on one hand and the client as operator on the other hand.
Lol. I am most definitely not pulling my eyes out. And my statement of course is a personal opinion. I could careless about whomever made the original statement. I saw yours. That's why I replied to yours. I'm also not saying one brand is better than the other; however, I do have a preference and I'm going to defend that preference if I feel that it's being degraded.

No doubt about it. If it wasn't for Lufthansa, this plane would have never been built.

Edit: Looks way better than the A-380. At least to me.

yes the b747-8i looks just so beautiful and that's perhaps the much better way of flying the a380 looks like a large whale ( nothing to animal lovers i love animals ) its just because the a380 had alot of delays and i think boeing can build the b747-8i in a faster time but for me both planes are good as long as they are safe =)

I thought the a380 and the 747i had big delays in development and deliveries.

2 new orders for the 8i at the 1st day of the airshow.

Quote:
Boeing Signs Orders and Commitments for 17 747-8 Intercontinentals

Boeing today during the Paris Air Show announced orders and commitments for 17 of its 747-8 Intercontinental airplanes. The orders, placed by two undisclosed customers, are valued at a combined $5.4 billion at list prices. One customer has committed to 15 of the new passenger version of the 747-8 while the other placed an order for two.

“These orders for the 747-8 Intercontinental mark a major milestone for the program and demonstrate the market’s need for an airplane of its size and range,” said Jim Albaugh, president and CEO, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “It will play a valuable role in further growing these carriers long-haul route networks.”

The orders bring the 747-8 Intercontinental total backlog to 50 firm aircraft, plus five from a commitment from Air China contingent on Chinese Government approval. It also brings the total 747-8 backlog, including 76 747-8 Freighters, to 126.

1 order for 15 planes and 1 for 2 planes, Boeing must be happy. And now we can wonder who made these 2 orders.

Yeah, some suggest that Hong Kong Airlines ordered 15 748i and two 380s are really for its parent company, Hainan Airlines, so that they don't have to wait for CAAC approval.
