What are you talking about? Qantas has done the same thing. I always fly QF from Santiago to Sydney.

At Detroit airport, for the past few months I have seen either 1 or 2 Delta 747's parked at the end of terminal C (the last 10 or so gates of that section are closed) I assumed these were the first retired 747's. On Friday I saw none parked at C, but three in a row at terminal A gates taking people to Shanghai, Tokyo, and Seoul. Cool site, I wish I could post pictures here.

You can use Flickr or Photobucket.

Nice pictures!

I'm still happy with the way BA is still adapting their 747s.

I wish there would be a ton of pictures of 9M-MPP.

The order is correct, the description of the variant in that article is incorrect. They are 4 Freighters.

Was officially announced by Boeing last week. Now there has been a lot of speculation on who it could be, but no further revelations.

I know last year CV was talking about already discussing a new 5 frame order with Boeing, so maybe that turned into 4? ABC obviously has their ongoing MoU to order conversions, so that is an option as well.

My longshot idea is that it is Asiana, finally placing the 4 frame order that was rumored to be happening a couple of years ago originally.

1435, 1437, and 1495 are all out there I believe.

I'm betting 1520 will reappear in her ABC livery and be ferried back. Tangentially, is there a reason why sometimes paint happens at VCV? Just due to scheduling?

Scheduling is why. They use VCV for 787's out of CHS and 747/777's out of PAE.

Heavies are painted in PAE, PDX, VCV, and ARA

PAE has 4 paint hangars.
PDX has 2 paint hangars.
VCV has 2 paint hangars.
ARA has 1 paint hangar

and soon CHS will have 2.

I've heard that once CHS comes online the CHS 787's won't be ferried to ARA, VCV, or PDX for painting anymore. Except in rare instances of scheduling issues.

The 747 is 50 years old this month on one measure. The CEOs of Boeing and Pan Am agreed that Boeing would build it IF Pan Am ordered it...and so Pan Am placed an order, the first, for a bunch of 747s in April 1966, 50 years ago.

It appears that there is a flight plan back for LN1520.
