Will any airline took the undelivered TransAero Boeing 747-8i?

Either Cathay Cargo or Silk Way Cargo will be heading to paint in PDX on the 28th of June. PDX is expecting both along with the 2nd Silk Way Cargo over the month of July for painting.

Bloomberg has an article up describing how Volga-Dnepr and Boeing are close to firming 10 more of the 20 MoU commitment from last year. From the article, it seems that the two leased frames last year were part of the 20 MoU commitment, and also that they (Volga/ABC) are behind 2 of the 4 unidentified 747-8F orders from back in March. Finally, they state that they will take all 20 frames that they committed to in the MoU.

Not sure if someone will take it. But LN1519 was taken out of short term storage & is being prepped for first flight and then ferry to the desert for long term storage.

atwonline.com - Boeing Iran Air deal could include 747-8s

Quote:
“Boeing confirms the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Iran Air expressing the airline’s intent to purchase Boeing commercial airplanes,” the company told ATW June 21.

The company declined to disclose details of the agreement with Iran Air. But the numbers discussed appear to be greater than 100 airliners, including about 70 narrowbodies and an unspecified number of 747-8 intercontinental passenger jets, according to sources familiar with the talks.

Iran Air didn't mention the 747 in their press release, this might just be a miscommunication somewhere on the line.

As with all the Iran orders it's still a matter of waiting until they are actually firmed up, and even then it's a guarantee that will actually be delivered.

It's still a wait and see situation how everything will work out. There are still a lot of hurdles that has to be taken before they will take delivery of these new airplanes from Airbus and Boeing. The bigger the planes, the bigger the bigger these hurdles.

Iran Air didn't mention any types in their original announcements. In fact, all of the talk was how Boeing hadn't even confirmed those talks and there was speculation on types, but nothing official. Some speculated it would be 737s and 777s, and that seemed to gain traction, but the news today, reported from multiple sources, seem to be more concrete than anything previous to this.

As you have said, though, everything is really open until actual firm numbers are announced by both Iran Air and Boeing.

Another great shot and information, as always!

Any chance with the Iran Air news today that she is no longer headed to storage, and is just being prepped for first flight?

Not a chance, that plane is going to storage.

Even if Iran buys some 747-8s the transaction will not be completed or even approved this year. Also, Boeing is most likely not able to sell that plane (yet) as it was previously assigned to another customer.

Besides Iran Air issued a press release mentioning only 737s and 777s.

I thought that the Iran Air release only mentioned that details would be forthcoming, not any specific types. The speculation of 737s and 777s was only rumor by people that was picked up on and run with.

Today, Boeing confirmed that announcement, and according to multiple sources covered by multiple outlets, that the MoA includes 747-8 Intercontinentals.

Aviation Week details that information here. Still not firm, but seems to be more solid than the earlier speculation. However, until things are actually firm, anything can happen.

Actually, the only official information comes from this Iran Air press release in broken english, anything else (specially a 747-8 order) are just rumors.

Iranair Will hopefully be able to lease purchase aircrafts mainly from the new generation of Boeing 737, as well as , 300ER & 900 aircrafts from Boeng. type 777.
The consensus in the interwebs is that (based on said press release) Iran air is interested in leasing 737 (either NG or MAX) and 777-300ER (or maybe 777-9)

Thanks for the link to the press release. I had thought that it didn't include type details, clearly it does. However, while the consensus was that up until yesterday, today Boeing announced confirmation of the MoA, and the reports from those sources are indicating more detailed information now. 109 frames, probably split between narrow and wide bodies, as well as 747-8s.

You are correct, it is still just rumor, but it seems more solid than even yesterday.

My Boeing contact has told me that the 2 frames ordered by Transaero are going to Iran Air per some internal people with knowledge of the MOU. Currently being prepped for flight and then off to storage until the deal if inked.

On another note. The Global Super Tanker made a visit to BFI today.

The planned wide-body fleet is particularly eye-catching, with Iran Air set to operate batches of 425-seat 777-9s, 467-seat 747-8s and 525-seat A380s, with the 12 superjumbos on order matching the number due to be taken by international heavyweights British Airways and Air France.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...-airline-elite

More info coming out, it clearly states here that Iran Air will take the 748 from Boeing.
