The current estimate by the GAO is around $3.2 billion for the procurement contract, no idea where you got $1.7 billion. And considering it's a government contract where cost overruns are the norm, it will likely be over $4 billion once the planes are delivered.

Trump's Air Force One slam could force changes to the replacement program

Jeff Daniels | @jeffdanielsca
Tuesday, 6 Dec 2016 | 8:44 PM ET

Quote:
President-elect Donald Trump's comments slamming Boeing's new Air Force One 747 airplane's $4 billion cost as being too high is being challenged by some analysts who also maintain the aircraft is absolutely necessary and worth it.

Still, pressure from Trump could lead to changes in the program such as farming out integration work on the communications gear and other advanced systems on board the new Air Force One jumbo jets to a company other than Boeing. That would presumably mean Boeing would deliver the plane without all the special defensive and other equipment required for the 747 to operate as a flying command post during emergencies and wartime.

"This is being targeted because it's high profile, not because it's high dollar," said Chris Higgins, a Morningstar defense analyst in Chicago.

(...) Higgins called the roughly $4 billion cost of the two presidential replacement jumbo jets "kind of peanuts" compared with larger big-ticket programs in the Air Force portfolio, including the F-35 joint strike fighter program from Lockheed Martin, as well as Boeing's $80 billion aerial tanker program and Northrop Grumman's B-21 long-range strike bomber reported to cost tens of billions of dollars.

"It's not a matter of if it will be replaced, but when," said Higgins. "They can continue to operate the current ones and extend their life. But it becomes more and more costly to do so given how old they are."

Fact Checking Trump's $4B Boeing Tweet: Where That Number Came From and What the Contract Says

By LUIS MARTINEZ and BECKY PERLOW
Dec 7, 2016, 6:36 PM ET

Quote:
(...) According to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, Trump found the $4 billion number from a Government Accountability Office report. And while published in March of this year, the report estimated a total cost for research and procurement of two presidential aircraft at $3.2 billion.

Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff David told ABC News that while that may sound like a lot of money, taxpayers have to remember this is a "system of systems."

"It’s multiple aircraft. And it’s not all Boeing. This a system that is going to have many different companies that are providing the systems that go on it," David said.

"We simply don’t know the exact figure. I know there are figures being thrown around, but we still have to get to the point of understanding fully what the requirement is before we can put a price tag on it," David added.

IranAir signs a deal for 80 airplanes (50 737's & 30 777's)

IranAir said it signed a deal on Sunday to buy 80 passenger planes from U.S. aircraft maker Boeing (BA.N), state news agency IRNA reported, in the biggest U.S.-Iran deal since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The agency quoted Farhad Parvaresh, the chairman of Iran's flag carrier, as saying that the 10-year deal included 50 Boeing 737 aircraft and 30 777 planes.

Boeing said in June it had signed a tentative agreement to sell 100 jets to IranAir after Iranian statements about the deal.

I wonder if they will ever be taken up by anyone, maybe they might become attractive for Korean Air or even Air China to add them to their fleets.

The Transaero orders might still be taken up by a Russian airline,

As for new orders, I would bet that it will be only 747-8F from now. With the low production rate and only a foreseen revival in the 2020s simply means that Boeing is not in negotiation with any airline for a 747-8I airline at the moment. They rather sell 777-300ERs for a quick delivery or the 777X for delivery in the 2020s to the airlines that want the capacity. And the 787 to all the airlines not needing such a large plane.

They won't be taken up by KAL or Air China. Like Momo1435 said, I bet they are picked up by Rossiya as they are taking all Transaero 737's that remain on their orders and converting the 744's for use.

At least they'll have a better (than Transaero's) livery this way.

Rossiya taking them makes sense, hopefully the Saudi BBj will find a home too, I feel Kingdom Holding might eventually take it up to replace their 744, they were going to have the first A380 VIP aircraft but sold it.
