Boeing CEO meets Trump, says Air Force One can be built for less than $4B

Bloomberg News

Quote:
Boeing Chief Executive Officer Dennis Muilenburg said he told President-elect Donald Trump that the planemaker can build a new version of Air Force One for less than $4 billion, after the Republican criticized the cost of the aircraft.

“We’re going to get it done for less than that, and we’re committed to working together to make sure that happens,” Muilenburg said as he left the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Wednesday.

Muilenburg said he gave Trump his “personal commitment on behalf of the Boeing Co.” The Chicago-based company will build the new 747 jets and outfit them to the Pentagon’s specifications, which include secure communications and anti-missile defenses. Boeing is just beginning work on the systems that will go into the new presidential aircraft.

“We’re looking to cut a tremendous amount of money off the price,” Trump told reporters, referring to Air Force One.

ICYMI: Boeing will no longer use customer codes on the 737, 747, 767, 777 lines bringing them in alignment with the 737Max & 787 lines. These changes have already been made on the FAA Certificates. The changes are effective with the following Line numbers for each respective Production Line.

I wonder if Rossiya will purchase the Boeing 747-8i originally destined for Transaero? I notice that this airline recently purchase some Boeing 747 originally owned by Transaero.

They took up the 744's from Transaero. Time will tell since they are both on the flight line for work.

United just announced an accelerated plan to retire all 747's from their fleet by Dec 2017 verses Dec 2018.

As deeply connected as we all are to this iconic aircraft, the time has come to retire our 747 fleet from scheduled service. Last March, we announced that this would occur by the end of 2018; now we plan to operate our last 747 flight in the fourth quarter of this year.

I remember back in the day when United had a forty plus fleet of 744's just like Singapore, and BA.

I wonder if there will be any other airlines who operate the Jumbo that will take them out of there fleet this year?
