Several media contacts of mine are saying there is some credibility to the statement that the USAF is getting the Transaero 748's. We will wait and see what happens.

That is what several media outlets are stating. Only time will tell.

If the USAF would buy new frames Boeing Commercial would deliver them as standard frames anyway. Which will be fully modified afterwards, pretty much everything will be changed anyway. It doesn't make too much difference in the costs of these modifications, the specs needed cannot be added on the regular assembly line anyway.

This is a really dumb question but here it goes ..... is there a website where you can see the side by side stats / comparisons to the planes?

I was reading an article about the 747 flight from Chicago to San Fran. I got curious how much gas, cost per seat, and so on goes into a 747 vs 777 or other planes.

i am sure the 747 still nets a profit per flight but not as much as a 777 or 787.

Wikipedia has pretty extensive info on the specs of each plane. You'll have to do the math yourself, but its a good source for the numbers.

So it appears LN1535 is actually going to Qatar Cargo as 1 of their 2 on order. Scheduled delivery is Sep 2017

Currently the paperwork I have shows TBD on paint completion. So my quests is yes it will go for paint in PDX like other QTR aircraft do.

Well the modification work is reported to begin in 2019, so I would suspect paper delivery will take place before then. Entry into service is expected in 2024.

Ps.
AF1 is the call sign of the flights, not the designation of the aircraft. Both are ordered for the AF1, it's not one main frame + 1 spare. Both are used in 'regular' operations.

Qatar Airways recruiting for 747-8F crews

Qatar Airways has confirmed that it is to introduce Boeing 747-8 freighters to its fleet, after embarking on a recruitment drive for cockpit crew.

The airline states, in an advertisement, that it is hiring freighter captains and first officers for "our Boeing 747-8 fleet".

Qatar Airways has not specified how many of the type it plans to take.
