For the record - UPS N605UP departed PAE as UPS9102 for one IFR loop in the pattern. Performed a touch n go and picked up its clearances to Louisville on departure changing to UPS7478call sign after the touch n go.

Congress may pick a fight over an important feature left off new Air Force One planes

The US Air Force confirmed in early August that it would buy two Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental airliners and convert them to serve as future Air Force One planes for US presidents.

The decision to buy planes that were already built rather than custom-made aircraft stemmed from President Donald Trump's push to cut costs.

Trump publicly criticized the Boeing-led program's cost in December.

Earlier this year, Trump said he would be able to cut a billion dollars from the $4.2 billion Presidential Airlift Recapitalization program, though the White House later said those savings would only amount to "millions."

Now the exclusion of a key feature to keep expenses down may attract objections from Congress.

"Strangely to me, the Air Force has just announced that the next version of Air Force One will not have in-flight refueling capability. What do you make of that?” Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton asked Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford on Tuesday, during a hearing to confirm Dunford's reappointment to chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"I think that was a decision that was not made by the Air Force, but made by the White House," Dunford said, "and I think it had to do with the fiscal constraints on the program."

Cotton, calling the decision strange, suggested lawmakers and military leaders might reverse it. "I think we might need to revisit that decision here on Capitol Hill," he said, according to Air Force Times.

The Air Force said in August that it wouldn't mandate the new planes have in-flight refueling systems, and officials have said adding that capability would add unneeded costs.

The detailed engineering of the 747 in flight refueling receptacle is already known since 1973 and receptacles are installed and certified at the IIAF 747-131SF Tankers, E-4A/B's and VC-25A's.

Expensive would be the integration into the highly automated 748 fuel system. I would take the option of a manual air-refueling panel, operated by the third cockpit crewmember (also needed for navigation in an emergency situation. see the additional navigation stations at the present USAF VC-25A and E-4B aircraft.

The only thing left would be the digital conversion of the analogue drawings, or would that also be too difficult for Boeing, seen the recent issues with the KC-46A

Azerbaijan to purchase six more Boeing aircraft by end of 2017

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plans to sign a contract by the end of 2017 to buy four Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, AZAL President Jahangir Asgarov said at the 7th Caspian Air Cargo Summit in Baku on October 10.

He added that two more Boeing 747-8 F aircraft will be acquired for the Silk Way Airlines company.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for all the beautifull pictures and all the help with verifying some of my 747-8 data.
I wish you a nice retirement in perfect health.

Boeing Capital Corporation has sold an 747-8F (currently on lease to AirBridgeCargo) to GECAS, the aircaft involved is L/N 1536, VP-BBL

See : https://www.genewsroom.com/press-rel...irlines-284062

Aircraft data : L/N 1536 - 747-8(3Q)F, RC652, serial number 63378, VP-BBL, lessor Boeing Capital, leased to AirBridgeCargo LLC , full livery , roll out July 18 2016, F/F September 02, Delivered September 27 2016, Delivery flight (ABW101-KSEA) date October 07 2016. Aircraft was sold to GECAS (new lessor) in October 2017.

This financial deal confirms that the recent cargo market upswing is recognized by one of the largest lessors and potential new orders may emerge for more 747-8 freighters.

This aircraft, leased to ABC, is the first 747-8F in the GECAS portofolio after the cancellation in September 2014 of the GECAS order for two 747-8F aircraft (ordered in 2011).

Also Boeing Capital Corporation (BCC) is now in a better position to finance some additional white tail freighters.

Thank you so much for your contributions on this forum, and in general with your images and updates via Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You have brought all of us with you into a look into the world of aviation that we all share a passion for, but that many of us don't have the luxury to pursue as you have. For that, I, and I am sure many others, are extremely grateful.

I hope you have wonderful adventures and nothing but enjoyment in your retirement!

"Air Force One" update

Both L/N 1519 and L/N 1523 (Transaero NTU) are now internally listed with contract delivery date October 31 2017.

L/N 1523 has already been listed with Boeing owner/operator identification code BAC/VA1
L/N 1519 has still been listed with "secret code " 461
