That looks spectacular! Looks much more modern and cleaner than the former NCA livery.

Agree with Momo1435 and fieldsofdreams regarding 747-8i for both JL and NH.

Facing a big competition from many carries, their TATL expanding strategy will be based mostly on 787 (proven by their gross order). Moreover, I believe that both of them will be interested in ordering 787-10.

With regard to domestic routes, 772~773 are doing a good job.

Boeing has booked a new order for 2 747-8s for an undisclosed costumer, it's not clear if it's a F or an I order.
http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

This brings the total for this year to 7, Air China ordered 5 earlier.

The Polar DHL livery looks like some cheap livery from the 1990s.

Hmmm, I wonder how much a Boeing 747-8 BBJ is today because that is a HUGE aircraft to become a BBJ. Perhaps it could replace Air Force One soon...?

Yesterday I didn't look at Boeing's deliveries page good enough to spot there were also cancellations for 5 747-8s. It's not clear who cancelled, but it's most likely the DAE order (Emirates Sky Cargo).

The 2 new orders were for the 747-8F.

According to Jon Ostrower on Twitter, it is indeed Emirates Sky Cargo.

Th official year end data for the 747.

Gross Orders: 7
Net Orders: 1
Deliveries: 31
Unfilled Orders: 67
http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=2552

Boeing has just 2 years plus a couple of months worth of unfilled orders, but they are not slowing down the production. They hope that the cargo market picks up and that the short delivery times will draw in some customers for the -8I.

To compare between manufacturing and delivery times for the 787 and 747-8I, what is the difference in terms of production, manufacturing, and testing time for both of them since you've said the 747-8I enjoy short delivery times?

With the short delivery times I mean the time between the order and the delivery. For the 747 it's not that long since Boeing has free production spots in 2 or 3 years, and if the customer pays a new order that is placed now could even still be delivered in 2013. With the 777 or the 787 the backlog is much bigger, therefor there's a longer time between the order and the delivery.

As in production and testing time the 747 takes a bit longer then the 787, it's bigger therefor it simply takes more time put together. And there's no real difference in the time to test the aircraft before delivery. But this is not really an issue when it comes to the moment of delivery to an airline.

Oh ok. Perhaps it should be promoted more aggressively to other interested -- and existing -- airlines (which operate the B747) so that they can be enticed to order another B747 from them... Perhaps its biggest selling point remains the unique "bump" curvature that symbolizes the uniqueness of the B747 family, and that with a lot of free time, this year and the next would be the best time for interested airlines to purchase a VLA with Boeing, either to replace or complement their existing B747s.

I think KLM, Transaero, BA and SU (biased) would benefit from 748s.

For KLM it would have been interesting if Boeing would have made a 747-8M combi, since they now have 16 744Ms and only 6 full pax 744s that can also be replaced by 777-300ERs. But the regulations for combi aircraft have become much more strict in the last 10 years, that won't happen unless there are more airlines that want to buy it. Only then it's worth the money for Boeing to design and make it go through a full certification progress.

BA could be interested, they still have a lot of 744 to replace. They already done this partially with the A380 and the 777-300ERs (they just announced that they are going to lease 2 more), but the decision on which new aircraft should replace the big chunk of 744s is still to be made.

Since Aeroflot will take delivery of it's first of 16, 402 seats big 777-300ER it doesn't look like they will go for the 747-8.

For Transaero everything is possible, they fly with everything so a 747-8 would fit perfectly in their very diverse fleet.

True but isn't KLM the only operator of B744 KOMBI? If in fact that is true than a good order from them would justify Boeing going ahead with it. I flew on their KOMBI from LAX. It was nice flying knowing that there are some rare breed horses in the back along with super cars and various Eurospec vehicles that are transported to Downtown L.A. to shoot commercials.

BA must purchase 748s in my opinion. End of discussion on them.

As far as Aeroflot yes, i agree that they will have diverse enough fleet of A330s, coming up 777s, upcoming 787s and 350s. They are studying and actually created a group for research of buying A380s. The reason why i said it is because 748 jumbo would look amazing in SU's livery.

Transaero already signed commitment for 748s. I am not sure if it was turned into firm orders.
