But curiously enough, KLM is reluctant and hesitant for getting rid of the 747-400 fleet specially the Combi fleet. So faw I know, they postponed the 747 retirement schedule at least once exactly as AF did.

Since they currently operate the the 6 full pax 747s next to the 7 (soon to be 8) 77Ws, there might still be room for a small order for the 747-8 if they don't want to downsize the number of airfleet in the 400+ passenger category. But an top-up of the 777-300ER or a new order for the next gen 777 or the A350-1000 is also possible. And if they want to go bigger they could even order some A380s, those would even fit better in the combined Air France / KLM fleet then the 747-8.
Despite AF already operates the A388 I highly doubt to see the whale jet into the KLM fleet. There is a bigger chance --still small, though-- to see the 747-8 as -8F in the Air France-Cargo fleet and some few 747-8I in the KLM fleet

I have a feeling that the 747 will end its life as a freighter aircraft with very few passenger ones around when it ends.

The 747 as a passenger aircraft are numbered.

This unpainted one is LN1475 RC028 D-ABYI for Lufthansa. Next one in final assembly is LN1477 RC029 D-ABYJ for Lufthansa too.

A new order is on the way, it looks like Boeing is filling up the unfilled production slots next year.
Quote:
Silk Way Airlines Signs MoU with Boeing for 747-8 Freighters

Azerbaijan`s Silk Way Airlines has inked a memorandum of understanding with Boeing company to purchase four new high capacity Boeing 747-8 freighter aircrafts.

According to Shamsaddin Mirsalayev, the first two freighter aircrafts will be delivered to the country in 2014-2015, while the two others are planned for 2016-2017.
full article:
http://www.topnews.az/en/news/46202/...reighters.html

This is the 3rd new order this year that has not been fully firmed up.
Air China: 2x -8I
Cathay Pacific: 3x -8F
Silk Way: 4x -8F

The 9 new ordered frames are about 4,5 months of extra work for Boeing (with a production rate of 2 per month). I don't think that Boeing has to decrease the production rate any more, at least not next year. And this Silk Way order shows that there is still room for more orders from these smaller (cargo) airlines from up and coming nations.

That is great news! Why doesn't Silk Way buy more planes to replace their fleet. When does Korean Air's first 747-8I come out of the factory and when is Saudia getting there plane delievered?

Silk Way is still just a small airline, it probably doesn't have the financials to renew their fleet in an instant.

Saudi Arabian Cargo should take delivery of their 747-8s any time now, it's probably just a matter of doing some last jobs.

There are no assembly slots for the 1st -8I for Korean in 2013. So it will be 2014 at the earliest, but when exactly is still unclear right now. It could even be Air China that will be 2nd operator of the -8I after Lufthansa.

That would be very nice if SilkWay takes those 4 Boeing B748's..

The Saudi Arabian Cargo B748 is on lease from Atlas Air..?????

No.
Saudi only take up 2 of 3 frames, which Atlas Air rejected 2 years ago.

They bought the 2 frames directly from Boeing. It's very probable that they are behind the order for 2 frames that was placed by a Unidentified Customer in November 2012.
