The firing order for 2014 is very Intercontinental heavy, which is the first time that this has happened I believe. From several posts on other sites:

L/N 1498 - 747-830, RC034, D-ABYO, Lufthansa #13, scheduled delivery * June 30 2014
L/N 1499 - 747-89L, RC066, Air China #1.
L/N 1500 - 747-830, RC035, serial number 37840, D-ABYP, Lufthansa #14, scheduled delivery * August 31 2014.
L/N 1501 - 747-8xxF**, RC671, Silk Way Airlines #1 ?
L/N 1502 - 747-8xxF**, RC672, Silk Way Airlines #2 ?
L/N 1503 - 747-830, RC036, D-ABYQ, Lufthansa #15
L/N 1504 - 747-8R7F, RC512, Cargolux #12
L/N 1505 - 747-867F, RC564, B-LJN ?, Cathay #14 , delivery 2016 ?
L/N 1506 - 747-8B5, RC051, KAL( Intercontinental) #1.
L/N 1507 - 747-89L, RC067, Air China #2.
L/N 1508 - 747-89L, RC068, Air China #3
L/N 1509 - 747-8B5, RC052, KAL (intercontinental) #2
L/N 1510 - 747-89L, RC069, Air China #4
L/N 1511 - 747-830, RC037, D-ABYR, Lufthansa #16
L/N 1512 - 747-830, RC038, D-ABYS, Lufthansa #17

I'm not sure how this exactly maps to the calendar year, but as Momo1435 stated above, it appears that KAL will definitely be looking at delivery of their first 8Is next year.

The production rate will go down to 1.5 per month early this year. Since the 1st for Korean is now the 9th in line to be loaded into assembly it should be about 6 months from now. Considering a assembly time of several months it will be ready for delivery at the end of 2014. Delivery could still be this year, it could also slip into early 2015.

Actually how many Boeing 747-8i does Lufthanse ordered? It seemed that they're ordering many of them.

Lufthansa has ordered 19 747-8Is, with 10 left to be delivered.

Originally they had 20 on order, but they cancelled the oldest frame they would be taking. This was the 2nd built 747-8I that was used for the certification test flights and needed a good amount of rework before it could be delivered. Because even after rework it would not be up to the specifications of all the newer ones they already had taken delivery of they cancelled this particular frame instead of getting a completely new one at a later date.

Edit: Ah, ninja'd by Momo!

Lufthansa ordered 20 back in 2006. At the beginning of 2013, Boeing asked to hold one of the test frames that was designated for LH for testing of the PIP. At that time, LH cancelled that order, but retained the option to purchase a newer frame later on to replace it.

Since that time, LN1435 has completed certification testing for the PIP, and is apparently now listed internally again for Lufthansa, however it is unclear what exactly that means at the moment.

That's a lot of order, and definitely good for Boeing 747-8 project.

Not to mention additional order from Air China and Korean Air.

Although at the end of the day, I believe Boeing 747-8i (not F) will be remembered as an unsuccessful Boeing project.

The B748i project didn't involve a large amount of investment so I wouldn't call it a complete loss OR unsuccessful project. The aircraft is simply a refresh of the B747 with updated wings, stretched fuselage and engines etc. Just like the B744ER it only sold 6 passenger frames to launch carrier QF. Again I wouldn't call them unsuccessful projects, it's the market has taken a shift and carriers are opting for twins vs quads.

Aha Silk Way has leased the 1st 747-8 from Gecas, it's going to be interesting to see if they also get the 2nd one from them. With 2 the 747-8s they ordered directly from Boeing also coming in this year it's going to be a significant expansion of the Silk Way West Airlines fleet.

I was actually curious about that. Is it confirmed that she is indeed a GECAS frame? Or is it possible that there was some switching around in the firing order?

That would make more sense.

It's easier for Boeing to switch the firing order with cargo planes then with passenger planes. We'll know when it's delivered.

Actually Boeing 747-400ER is just a variant of Boeing 747-400 with additional fuel tank and GE CF6-80 engines. In fact it is similar CF6 engine to standard Boeing 747-400.

While Boeing 747-8 is a completely different variant of Boeing 747.

It is unfortunate that Boeing 747-8 potential of having the smallest operational cost (of all jumbojets in operation) is hardly explored by airlines.

Silk Way said to operate four 747-8F aircraft. It seems two will be leased from GECAS, and another two will be bought directly from Boeing.

True, this could be one possibility, however the reason for the number 4 was because it was reported that Silk Way had signed an MoU for 4 aircraft. Up until this point, I thought it was simply a case of them firming 2 now and probably firming up another 2 later. So, I think it is still a possibility that there was some switching around of the firing order, instead of this being a lease.

Either way, great to see a new livery on the 747-8!
