Both Silk Way 747-8 freighters will go into storage. 4K-SW881 will stay at PAE while 4K-SW882 will ferry to Pinal Airpark.

Boeing announced the 747-500X, -600X, and -700X at Farnborough 1996 but the concept was rejected by the market.

Not the size, but the shape of the tail should have been modified to be more aerodynamic.

No the one that I saw in a magazine in early 1990s was very similar to A380. It would have been much larger than Boeing 747. And unlike A380 which have figure 8 cross section, Boeing's superjumbo would have had fully rounded fuselage.

I think the one you saw was the MD-12.

No it was published before the MD-12 project, or when the MD-12 was intended as trijet successor of MD-11.

Boeing, Airbus and Mcdonnell Douglas all kicked around full double deckers in the 90s. MD probably most publicly with the MD-12 proposal, but the Boeing NLA (new large aircraft) and Airbus a2000 concepts were all a380 like ideas that never got off the ground.

The 747-8 is nice. Boeing was smart and realized there wasn't any need conduct a "major overhaul" on plane that wasn't broken. Also, 4 engine jumbos will soon be a product of the past within the next 5-7 years. Two engine jumbos are simply more fuel and weight efficient planes and desired amongst major carriers.

Something doesn't have to be broken for need of a major overhaul. Many things can be improved, like fuel efficiency, aerodynamics, speed, etc. which is why new version of these planes are produced, to replace and outperform the old. And there yet has to be seen a double decker 2 engine plane, but it wont happen anytime soon as there is no demand for something like that yet as the A380 is still in production and takes up the whole market.

When it came about efficiency, Boeing 747-8 definitely overtook Airbus A380. But, the reason why its passenger version hardly sell, is due to its poorer appeal factor.

The 20th century witnessed many horrific airplane accidents – the collision of two aircraft in Tenerife in 1977 being amongst the worst. Here is the list of 10 deadliest airplane crashes

5 out of 10 Crashes are of Boeing 747 ...

Agree with the poster who said they should have altered the tail and horizontal stabilizer design too, why didn't they? could APU also have had 787 or 777 like treatment?

Korean Air have already placed order, as well as Air China. There are several others BBJ version of Boeing 747-8i who have been delivered to their customers.
