Regarding the 8is all being lined up in a row, part of that I believe is just how the slots were allocated, since the Intercontinentals were launched and ordered later. Another part may be that they were trying to wait for the PIP and other improvements that Boeing promised almost immediately upon first delivery of the 8i to LH. Regarding LH's birds being all in a row, that may have been part of the re-shuffling of delivery schedule that Lufthansa asked for earlier this year. They wanted their frames earlier, and at their current positions, they look to be rolling out late this year or early next year, for probably delivery in the first quarter of next year. I think that is a good sign that they are happy with the frames and generating some good revenue with them. Hopefully that translates into more orders, both from other airlines and LH themselves, even if it may be a small space still compared to the battle of the twins.
Well, that is good that they want their frames ASAP.

I would be very surprised if this actually turns into an order.

Boeing Peddles 747-8 to Emirates as Alternative to A380 Jet

By Andrea Rothman Jun 1, 2014 4:37 PM

Boeing Co. is talking to Emirates, the world’s biggest operator of the Airbus A380 superjumbo, about a potential purchase of its rival 747-8, as the airline seeks more fuel-efficient carriage of large passenger numbers.

Emirates’ need for better fuel burn on its largest jets has opened a window of opportunity for Boeing, which has begun discussions about the 747-8, said John Wojick, senior vice president for sales and marketing at the Chicago-based manufacturer’s commercial airplane unit.

The airline has bought more than a quarter of all A380s produced, with plans to receive its 50th A380 next month. Emirates said last week it wanted Airbus to put newer engines on its A380 to make the double-decker more efficient. Winning Emirates as a customer would be a major boost for the 747-8 program, which has struggled to attract orders for the passenger version of the iconic hump-backed airliner.

Emirates’ possible interest come as Boeing sees renewed interest in the 747-8, which at this point is operating only by Deutsche Lufthansa AG, one of four customers for the passenger variant. Talks are at an early stage, and Wojick didn’t say how many aircraft Emirates may want to buy.

A well, if you don't try to sell it you won't get any customers at all.

In the A380 thread I bought up the same points to the people there. That the A380 is a fat elephant that needs to be slimmed down. I am sure there are multiple ways that they can lighten it up and be more efficient.

The 747-8i is exactly what Emirates is looking for, longer range, modern engines, and way more fuel efficient than the A380. I really hope Emirates goes along with this instead of trying to use Boeing to get a leverage and force Airbus to redesign the 380

It is remain to be seen whether if Emirates would actually purchased the Boeing 747-8i. If they really purchase them, it may not be in a very large number, but sufficient enough to keep the program alive.

Well, this is great news that Boeing is again aggressively pitching in the 748. I really hope this will work out.

EK's A380, IMHO, is too fat and heavy with the way they did to the interiors like putting showers and other accommodations like a hotel which is naturally made it heavier.

The 747-8i is still the fastest commercial jet and the range with the PIP.

According to Boeing's promo video of The Flagship, the 747-8i is 8% more efficient than the A380 and and has a 26% trip cost advantage.

That Fanhansa livery is to die for. looks good on the B747.

It's a shame that Emirates is still betting on their fatty, I mean, A380.

As posted elsewhere, a few pictures here of LN 1437, as she spent time on display in the desert. The first one is courtesy of @aeroboqueron, and the latter two are from @FlyBy797, who also confirmed that the frame was on a sales tour of some kind.

Does anyone have any more information on what she was up to?
