I have a strong feeling that Emirates did ditch the Airbus 350 for a future order of B747-i8. mark my word...

I hope so. I read a report that they will still bank on the A380. I dont know with them, too many super jumbos on the market.

Boeing 747-8i in Emirates livery would be great too.

Unfortunately, I believe those news items were simply a restatement of Korean's existing order for 10 frames. Since they will start taking delivery next year, they are starting to drum up some press about it now.

Regarding the Air China frame, I don't believe she has gone into paint yet, so the existing pictures of her as a shiny aluminum frame are still accurate.

Order is for 10 789 and 10 748 Intercontinental. The order for October 2013 was for 5 748i , 6 773er and 1 789....

It wouldn't, I personally can't picture EK, EY and QR with 747's.

Again, while it would be great if it was a new order, the way the reports are all worded point to it simply being KE announcing that they have (in the past) placed orders for 10 747-8i and 10 787-9 frames.

For example, from the Korean Times:

Quote:
By Lee Hyo-sik

Korean Air, the country's largest flagship carrier, plans to introduce a series of next-generation aircraft over the next few years to better serve customers, reduce fuel costs and cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The carrier said it has placed an order for Boeing 747 8is, Boeing 787-9s and other state-of-the-art planes ahead of its rivals, which will put it in a better position to lead the global aviation industry.

''We will introduce a wide range of next-generation planes with high-operational efficiency, high-safety and high-convenience over the years,'' a Korean Air spokesman said. ''It is possible because we placed orders earlier than our competitors. With everyone seeking to buy new airplanes these days, it will take longer for our rivals to get the planes.''

The carrier will take delivery of 10 Boeing 747-8i aircraft from 2015 through 2017, the spokesman said, adding that the plane is an upgrade of the current Boeing 747-400.
That talks of them placing orders earlier, not recently. A quick glance at Boeing's O&D reports confirms this fact.

Code:
Korean Air South Korea East Asia 747-8 GE 07-Dec-2009 5
Korean Air South Korea East Asia 747-8 GE 24-Oct-2013 5
Total 10
and:

Code:
Korean Air South Korea East Asia 787-9 GE 31-May-2005 10
Total 10

Once again, I'd be happy if they were new orders. However, all the signs point to them not being new.

Nice picture! However, I think this is LN1435, RC021. It was the second Intercontinental test aircraft, and was scheduled to be D-ABYE for Lufthansa. When Boeing asked to use it to continue testing for the PIP, LH cancelled the frame, leaving their total at 19 for the moment.

Internally, the frame appears to be listed for Lufthansa again, so perhaps they will eventually re-order her and maybe some others!

Photo Report of Flight LH 796 Frankfurt - Hong Kong:
Occupancy was rather low in Y, I had three seats for myself. Lufthansa seems to have some trouble filling the seats.
Flight was operated by a Boeing 747-8i D-ABYN.
