The cancelation of the 787s was already booked last week, the new 747 has jet to be booked. With the recent trade war over the conflict in Ukraine between Russia and USA/EU/Japan it might take some time before the extra 747s will be firmed. And lets not forget that Transaero took their time firming up their 1st 747-8I order. When firmed up Transaero will have 8 747-8Is on order.

The 787s that had on order where the terrible teens, the early produced overweight 787-8s that need a lot of rework. Boeing is having a hard time selling them to new customers, in that sense this conversion is a bit of a problem for Boeing. But with the 747-8I program struggling to gain sales I have no doubt that Boeing is actually quite pleased with this solution.
I dont think that decision to go from a 787 to 747-8i is a bad thing ..... it opens up a slot of another company.

It doesn't open slots. The previous order would have opened a runway that is now used for long term storage for 787s, now it won't.

If ever Boeing stops manufacturing B747 .. is there any other Boeing model to replace B747 ???? looking at Boeing website, looks like the Queen of the skies is about to abdicate.. One 747 ordered this year, for CargoLux... sad if the 747 can't regain it's position ...

777X is a 747 replacement. There's not much money to be made in larger planes so I am sure Boeing won't care much about that market.

The 747 is pretty much done as a passenger airliner (with a few exceptions) -besides freight, its last act (as a 747-8) will be to serve as a replacement for Air Force One. Probably under the next President of the United States.

And there are some orders for the 747-8F on the way. Earlier this year it was rumored that Asiana was looking at 4 via a Chinese lessor. Now some of the white tails (no customer yet) that Boeing had built are now rumored to be designated for Asiana together with 2 upcoming production slots. Air Bridge Cargo will also be getting one of the white tails, that would be their 6th. As they only had 5 on order it will be a new order or they will lease it from GECAS that has still 2 on order (if that is possible considering the sanctions and boycots between the West and Russia). Cathay Pacafic is now also rumored to place another order for 2 747-8Fs.

more info and the production list can be found here.

The ICBC lease to Asiana seems to be the most likely scenario. The rumors were for 4 frames, so far all we can really see (per some info from 747classic on a.net) was that 1501 has been allocated the Asiana customer code, and 1502 is TBD. Both of those frames are supposed to go into paint in the last half of October, so there should be some clarity then, if not before that.

Additionally, the ABC order was a re-assignment of the Cathay Pacific frame that they ordered at the end of last year. It wasn't a white tail, but a frame that CX ordered with a scheduled delivery of 2016, although they could have potentially taken it whenever they wanted.

GECAS just last month confirmed that they have not placed either of their frames yet, so it seems unlikely that they would be involved in any of these cases.

There should be some order announcements soon, at least for the ABC and the ICBC/Asiana frames. Boeing is sitting on these at the moment it seems, even though the ABC frame has been painted already and the Asiana frame has had its customer code switched.

Hopefully this means that what Boeing was saying earlier this summer, that they have several campaigns that were solid but not quite ready to be firmed up yet, is actually accurate and that there will be some more interesting activity coming up.

It looks like the 747 production line will be closed by 2024, but not until after replacing Air Force One.

Just like the previous financial analyst that said that they would close the line in the next couple of years, it is all just speculation, and only Boeing really knows. In fact, it's possible that they don't know, but that instead they do evaluations periodically that factor in many things.

747 Commercial

Not VIP or priver or cargo

Qatar Airway, Emirates, Etihad, Gulf Air and Oman Air does not use 747-8 as a commercial airplane only Saudi Airlines and I'm not sure about Kuwait Airways

Yes thats what I indicated in my post all those are former operators of 747 variants because you didnt clarify which type you were inquiring about.

Kuwait Airways has one 744 Combi which is VIP configured in upper deck, and its used for commercial flights as well sometimes.

Saudia only have 747-8F not passenger version, though one 748BBJ is suppoed to join Saudia Royal fligh, cargo aircraft are also commercial, so Etihad Cargo operating 748F also counts.

Boeing knew that the 8i wasnt going to sell well, they said it themselves!

They knew the market was going toward the 787s and 777x. They built the 8i / 8F mainly for the 8F variant that.

I hope that one day Boeing will make a plane which will compete & beat A380 and they can do it… I just think that they don't want to because they are focusing in other airlines production such as 787 which it in my opinion not a very successful plane

I'm a big 747-8 fan, but this is just plain wrong. Boeing planned for the Intercontinental version to be a very big part (some would even say the majority) of the 747-8 sales. The 777X was not any tangible factor back when the 747-8 was being originally pitched.

I believe it is clear that Boeing is predicting the market space that VLAs (747-8 and 380) occupy is relatively small, however I think they also feel that the 747-8 fits a part of their strategy for high end capacity where they think that a "right-sized" plane, which has more space than a 777 but where a 380 is often times too big, can find a market.
