I have a feeling that such livery actually belonged to 1970s or 1980s

I don't get why there is so much hate for the Air China Livery. I like it, it is a hell of a lot better than other Chinese airlines. Have you seen China Eastern?

I wonder if they will use the 747-8 domestically. They use an old 747 once a day on the SHA-PEK route.

I agree with the CA livery. I would never say it's the most exciting one, but it definitely has a classic look that takes to the 747-8's lines really well I feel.

In terms of routes, do you mean permanently? They are running the frames on a few routes domestically for training purposes, however I believe that their plans were to use them on international routes once they and their crews have worked up.

The first routes will be to JFK and SFO starting in January of 2015.

And by the way, Air China uses various wide-bodied aircraft as well for its domestic ops, not just the B747-8I. Recall that China Southern uses an A380 too for its Beijing-Guangzhou flights too? There are indeed certain domestic pairs within China that get so many passengers, larger aircraft are needed to cope with such a great demand...

I will be excited to see CA's B747-8I once it arrives in SFO next year... but that means the B77W will be reassigned to other routes. Perhaps CA could consider an additional daily rotation for SFO... yet I know UA already does that role nicely.

Boeing is planning to reduce production of its 747-8 jumbo jetliner starting September next year due to weaker demand for freighters.

Hmmm... should that mean:

- More opportunities for airlines to book for a production slot with the B747-8I, and
- Boeing is more focused on the B777 that it will be developed even further instead of the B747?

A great and informative post, summarizing where many of those frames are. Thanks for sharing the 747-8 images here. Your pictures are always great to see.

The CA and KZ frames should deliver this month.

The LH frame, January of 2015. Both KE frames should be in 2015, but I'm not sure exactly when.

I don't know of any date for the CV frame.

Do you know who the customer is for 1435 as a BBJ? I had not heard anything about that. Last reports I saw, she was internally listed for LH again.

According to recent news .... the a380 program might fold. Does anyone think the 747-8i gets resurrected?

Slow down production now just to keep the 747 program a float and wait till the a380 program fails.

Then maybe a few more sales now come the way?

747 is dead. With 777X on horizon, there is no way that many more orders will be announced. If any new order will happen at all.

Boeing would prefer to make a clean break with its past if it has any intention of re-entering the very-large-aircraft market once Airbus cancels its A380 program.

You are probably right .... but if the 380 program gets canceled. i would make a bet Emirates would show some interest and maybe a few other airlines.

Right now, basically, slow down production of the 747 and let the program scrap by slowly and going almost minimum building speed. Then once 380 is canceled. See what airlines think of the 8i and can always increase production if needed.
