So Air China is the only airline who solely replace their Boeing 747-400 with Boeing 747-8i?

It was re-registered as N828BA. So its next destination is desert of Marana.

Looks like they towed it to the factory to hang new engines on it. Then they towed it back to were it was sitting behind the delivery center.

Some good news. It appears that Silk Way Cargo has agreed to order 3 more 747-8F frames. They are to be delivered in 2015 and 2016.

Perhaps, like last year, Boeing will announce a few other 747-8 orders right at the end of the year.

On a slightly related note, congratulations are due to Greenpoint for their delivery of the first VIP 747-8 BBJ completion.

Looks like Boeing found a home for some of the white tails that they have sitting around at Everett and at Pinal Airpark in the desert in Arizona.

No, no interest in such a product.

There were even rumblings that Airbus might cancel the A380 program due to lack of interest from airlines.

The 747-800 was Boeing's half assed reply just to have something of similar size and range.

But not enough to be profitable in the long run. Only from next year the production costs will sink low enough that Airbus will start to make money on every delivered A380. But they have to keep up the production at the current level. Something that will be a problem after 2017 with the lack of orders. As much as Emirates is growing, they can't take delivery of 30 A380s every year.

The market simply isn't big enough yet for 2 such planes. Boeing is still working hard to make the 787 profitable, the 737 MAX, the 787-10 and the 777X are now the main projects that eat into the development budget. This will be followed by the 737 successor, and then maybe a replacement for the 777 and 747-8 which will most likely be a larger version of the 787 which will compete with the larger versions of the A350.

It all comes down to the fact that there's far more money to be made by the large twin engined aircraft. It's still a business after all, the Dollars will have to be made and that's can be done easier with planes that sell in larger numbers.

There are unconfirmed rumors on some aviation news websites that Transaero has cancelled their A380 and 747-8I orders because of financial issues caused by Russia's economic troubles.

"Not clear at the moment is the status of Transaero’s orders for four 747-8 passenger aircraft with Boeing and four A380s with Airbus. Cargo Facts has been told that the carrier cancelled both orders, but this has not been confirmed."
http://cargofacts.com/rouble-trouble/

If not cancelled the orders will most be deferred until the Russian tourist market starts to grow again.
