AirBridgeCargo might order 1 more 747-8F. They might take more, but they could also add 747-400 (ER)Fs.

More freighters for AirBridge

January 15, 2015

AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) will take two more freighters into its fleet this year – and has said it is considering a further two.

Speaking to Cargo Facts’ European editor Alex Lennane, ABC’s Executive President Denis Ilin said that one 747-400ERF, formerly oper*ated by KLM/Martinair Cargo (35233), was completing test flights in Amsterdam in early January in anticipation of delivery to the airline in February. He added that he expected a 747-8F to be delivered in September. “But that is the minimum. We might be more aggressive, and could do two more airframes. We do see the business for that – it’s more our own operational requirements that prevent us. We want to be 100% certain that we can per*form so we tend to be very conservative on that front.”

The one that they will take this year is likely be one of the white tails, just like the one last year they ordered on the same date as it was delivered.

Ah, well that is disappointing. Perhaps they have simply scheduled it for another frame?

Possibly - maybe Lufthansa didn't get the design to the paint shop before the deadline. They have to be approved and submitted 2 weeks prior to being painted. Maybe D-ABYT will be retro now.

With the discounts Boeing is giving for new 777-300ERs orders it will be even harder for them to also sell more 747-8Is. If they also discount the 777F it will also be harder to sell the 747-8F which also didn't see any real new orders for some time. With real orders I mean orders for new production slots, not orders for the white tails that are already built, or are about to be build.

Boeing is selling the 777 "classics" at a sharply reduced prices to fill up the production gap towards the EIS of the 777X.

The 777 classic backlog with the current production rate is just under 3 years long, the 1st 777X should be delivered in 2020. Boeing doesn't want to slow down the current production rate therefor they try to sell as many 777-300ERs as possible. And what better way to do this then put a big SALE sign up.

Airlines will probably also get a big discount on the 747-8I, but even then the 777 is still more interesting for most airlines. Especially since there are now much more airlines left with 777 of any type in their fleet then airlines with 747s.

I wish if Garuda or any other potential Indonesian carrier would purchase additional Boeing 777

I hope Philippine Airlines will take some of those B777s (or even try out the B747-8) at a discount so that it can expand its long-haul fleet further and add more routes.
