She was the 2nd test aircraft for the -8i portion of the program. Originally scheduled to be D-ABYE for Lufthansa, in early 2013 Boeing asked to hang on to the plane to continue to use it as a test aircraft for the PIP. Lufthansa agreed, but cancelled the frame, stating that it would be too different from the rest of their fleet. At the time, they left open the possibility of picking up a new frame later to round out their original order for 20.

It was rejected by Lufthansa and will be stored in Pinal Park. Rumor around Boeing is it may be used for testing upgrades for AF1 and eventually go to the Air Force as the third on their order of 3 747-8i's.

Transaero's first 747-8i has been sealed for short term storage at PAE. It was later moved to the flight line as Boeing doesn't have the tower space any longer to store frames, hence why Korean's LN 1509 is on the flight line as well.

The plane is owned by Kingdom Holding, which is a publicly listed company run and owned (majority stake) by a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family, prince Al-Waleed bin Talal.

I just flew Delta upper deck 747 DTW to AMS and it was great. So private, and we got to take pictures sitting in the captains seat! Then I flew 767 MUC to ATL. Terrible seats with no privacy in 'Delta One'. Too bad the FA said Delta will retire the entire 747 fleet by 2017.

I wish if Garuda willing to take the airplane. But it seemed that Garuda wont buy any jumbojet to replace its aging Boeing 747-400s.

yeah that is too bad airlines are retiring the 747s. Honestly, Airlines we know are still making money off of 747 flights, its just that the profit margin from running the plane isnt big enough.

here is a dumb / fake example:

If a 747 flight to where ever makes 10 bucks but the same flight with a 777 makes 20 bucks. The airlines want the 20 dollar flight due to more income.

I know it won't happen, but aren't the two 777 engines total output in the same range as the 747's four engines? (230k lbs vs 250K lbs) A new wing with two GE-90 115 engines. Wouldn't that make the 747 MORE efficient than a 777 per passenger?

Take it all the way. Twin engine, full carbon fiber construction, bleedless all electric systems. Just scale the 787 technology up into the 747 form factor.

Lots of efficiency to pick up there.

I have an Instagram account, but not a fan of it. I prefer Twitter and tweet most pics out quickly that way.

You mean N661US? From what I have read, she will be given to a museum.

Ah, great...
I wonder when will it be delivered to the museum?
