If delivery will be in November, then it will be ferried into storage in MZJ after first flight.

Will Delta repair its hail-battered Boeing 747?
2 July 2015
Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Online Excerpt

This might be the end of "The Spirit of Beijing."

A Boeing 747 that Delta Air Lines Inc. inherited when it bought Northwest Airlines is still in Seoul two weeks after a harrowing flight through a hailstorm over China.

It's not clear whether Atlanta-based Delta (NYSE: DAL) plans to repair the double-decker jumbo jet, but there are millions of reasons not to.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) sold its 747-400s for about $150 million each in 1989 when Northwest was the first carrier to put them in the air. The damaged jet (tail No. N664US) was among the first of Northwest's 747-400s and flew routes to and from China under "The Spirit of Beijing" moniker.

Twenty-six years after its first flight, the plane's value depreciated to somewhere between $6 million and $10 million, estimated George Dimitroff, head of valuations at Flightglobal in New York.

That was before Delta Flight 159 flew into the storm.

Now, the hail-marred airframe would be worth maybe $50,000 as scrap metal if Delta doesn't repair the plane, Dimitroff estimated.

The 747's four Pratt & Whitney PW4000-SER engines could each sell for $1 million to $2.5 million if they're undamaged and serviceable, he said.

"This aircraft was close to retirement anyway, and most of its value was in its engines even before the incident, so if the engines are undamaged, the impact to total value wouldn't be too big," Dimitroff said.

Delta has been retiring airworthy 747s as part of a plan to take them all out of service by 2017 and use smaller, more fuel-efficient planes. There are still about a dozen Delta 747s in the air, which means the airline will soon have more than enough retired 747s in storage.

A new 747-8

Any idea about this new 747-8. Looks to be a new Brunei government, but which airliner is it?
Pic taken in Waco (TX) where 2 B747-8 were for outfitting, but these were one for Bahrain an the other one for Oman, so this Brunei livery is a mistery... (Photo airliners.net)

Apparently that is 1459. It was unconfirmed for Bahrain, so it seems the confirmation now is that it was for Brunei.

In other, tangential, news. It seems that rumors are circulating that Pakistan International Airlines is considering changing their order from 2012 of 5 77W to 5 747-8i.

QATAR AIRWAYS CARGO TO INTRODUCE FIRST 747 FREIGHTER TO FACILITATE GROWING CHARTER DEMAND

Additional freighter will enhance airline’s oversized cargo carrying capacity
The 747F will complement Qatar Airways Cargo's expanding freighter fleet
15 Jul 2015

DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways Cargo will introduce the first 747 freighter to its expanding fleet on 1 August 2015 to further enhance its global on-demand charter services.

The B747-400BCF will complement the cargo airline’s expanding freighter fleet providing 112.5 tonnes of capacity dedicated to worldwide charter services. The aircraft is well known for its loading flexibility and with a wide side cargo door the B747F can be loaded quickly and easily, irrespective of whether the load is made up of standard containers and pallets, or outsized cargo.
Qatar Airways Cargo will welcome its first 747 freighter to its expanding fleet

Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Ulrich Ogiermann said: “Qatar Airways Cargo is experiencing increased worldwide demand for quality charter services as well as growing local demand with significant infrastructure projects under way in Qatar that require outsized cargo capacity. The addition of the B747 freighter will also provide greater flexibility to our global network by supplementing our existing scheduled services as and when required.”

The airline will welcome a B747-400F with a nose loading door to its fleet in October 2015, replacing the B747BCF to provide even more flexibility to satisfy customers’ oversized cargo transportation demands.

Maybe one of 3 former Jade Cargo's 747-400Fs will be that one?

I wonder if Qantas had operated CF6 powered Boeing 747-400 standard variant (not the -ER ones).
A few months ago I saw a video of former Qantas' Boeing 747-400 being scrapped. Upon reading its registration, I did searched in Airfleets and quite surprised to learn that the aircraft was powered by GE CF6 engines, instead of RB211.
I'm sorry I forgot what its registration was.

Speaking of Qantas and the B744, it has finally revealed its schedule (and therefore, opening its reservations) for the Sydney-San Francisco service, due 18 December 2015. This is a perfect Christmas gift both cities will get since United has been operating this lone Australian service from San Francisco for the past 4 years (downgraded from a 744 to a 772).

QF073 SYD1500 – 0930SFO 744 x26
QF074 SFO2325 – 0900+2SYD 744 x26

Route is subject to government approval. And this flight will become 6 weekly (x6) from 2 February 2016. I hope that over time, this service will become a daily to complement UA's service... perhaps an A380 on this route would be a suitable long-term goal?
