hkskyline's 2010 VERONA Photo Collection #1

Verona is a nice stop on the way from Venice to Milan. It's not overrun by tourists like Venice while it is smaller and easier to explore than Milan. Armed with a cheap 10 euro city pass on hand, I set off to see the Roman arena, which was my first stop from the trains station.

Was a bit surprised how Munich Airport got in here!

Doesn't look like a scene from the past though ...

It looked just like the other arena I visited in Nimes a few years ago.

Next to the arena is a major pedestrian shopping street.

This is a very funky sightseeing bus! But Verona's historic centre is quite walkable.

Casa di Giulietta is supposed to be a romantic place where the famous Juliet would peer on the balcony awaiting her sweet prince. In reality, the house is quite ugly and the balcony is nowhere near romantic. Yet scores of lovers make the pilgrimmage to this place hoping to testify their love to the world.

Expressing your love and have it drown in a sea of similar messages.

Continuing my tour, the streets were quiet but had some architectural surprises now and then.

Basilica di Santa Anastasia looked a bit plain outside but don't be fooled. It is very beautiful inside.

The river is not too far from the church, and my destination is across on the other side.

Verona is one of the top5 italian "artistic" destinations, and it's also called "the second Rome" because, just like the capital, is the only city in Italy with an outstanding artistic and urbanistic heritage from different historycal ages. Throughout the centuries we can find Roman Verona, Ostrogoth Verona, Middle Age Verona, Renaissance Verona, Austrian Verona.
