Paddington, located in Sydney's eastern suburbs, has morphed into one of the Harbour City's most desirable neighbourhoods. Terrace houses have been beautifully restored and the suburb is now one of Australia's finest shopping precincts. Oxford Street hosts a smattering of international designer (Acne, Diesel, Hugo Boss, Nudie Jeans) and chain (French Connection, G Star Raw, Puma, Sketchers) stores as well as Australian designer (Alannah Hill, Leona Edmiston, Sass & Bide, Zimmermann) and chain (Country Road, Dotti, Industrie, Witchery) stores. Cult labels like Ksubi and consignment stores such as Incu can also be found alongside specialty stores Bang & Olufsen and Mac.

Paddington is also home to dozens of private art galleries as well as the historic Victoria Barracks and parklands ranging from the sprawling Centennial Park to the award winning Paddington Reservoir. Furthermore, the suburb is something of a culinary playground with restaurants by highly regarded chefs such as Manu Feildel's (from My Kitchen Rules) Manu at L'etoile, Logan Campbell's 2 hatter Lucio's, Colin Fassnidge's 2 hatter Four in Hand Hotel and crazy popular chocolatier Max Brenner.

You’ll find a little bit of everything in Bondi Junction – from shopping centres to pedestrian malls, department stores to outdoor markets, designer labels to street art, mid and high density living to commercial buildings Bondi Junction has it all. Westfield Bondi Junction is the Westfield Group’s original flagship centre. It is home to over 370 specialty stores including David Jones, Myer, Target, Borders (for now), Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi and Rebel Sport as well as close to a dozen luxury labels (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Emporio Armani, Jimmy Choo, Coach, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Tumi, Georg Jensen, Max & Co). The Harbour Room helped revolutionize shopping centre dining with magnificent views of Sydney Harbour and quality cafes and restaurants.

Out on the streets in Bondi Junction and it is a different vibe to WBJ. The Oxford Street Mall is a pedestrian only mall that features a host of local retailers, chain stores, cafes and restaurants. Markets are held on the mall every Thursday through Saturday with twilight markets held on Fridays between October and March. As one of several ‘satellite CBDs’ in Sydney, Bondi Junction has a range of mid and highrise buildings however unlike the CBD proper most buildings have residential purposes over commercial uses.

I don't mind a thread dedicated to photos by others which have been acknowledged within the thread.

The Pink Concert on Sunrise was back in 2008. I remember watching a replay of it on 7HD around that time.

Since I am now officially a Sydneysider, I am able to post some of my own photos in this thread

I am particularly impressed with Palings Lane/Ash Street/Angel Place. And I'm excited by how much more the precinct can evolve into a happening network of laneways, both day and night.

Palings Lane has been rebuilt as part of the glitzy Ivy complex. It is lined by specialty stores such as Peter Alexander, Mimco, Elsewhere, Zimma Tailors, Brad Ngata Hair, T Bar and The Bottle Shop. Some of the stores open later than in other parts of the CBD. Here's a few pics

Palings Lane feeds into Ash Street which runs parallel to George Street and is slowly evolving into Sydney's best laneway. The lane is home to a hair and beauty salon (Christopher Hanna) as well as the Ash Street Cellar and Felix (one hat 2012 SMH Good Food Guide). There is one vacant spot as part of the Ivy complex on Ash Street, which surryhills heard could be used as a patisserie. Until recently, the majestic 350 George Street building was home to a basement Dymocks store, however it has now closed. Thus an opportunity exists for up to 4 bars/cafes/restaurants to take up the space with two fronting Ash Street and the other two fronting George Street. This will only enhance Ash Street. Last night when I passed through Ash Street, Ivy's 'March in Merivale' Food Festival was on. Half a dozen stalls (by Merivale restaurants including Ash Street Cellar, El Loco, Felix and Sailors Thai) lined Ash Street with street food. Impressive stuff! Here's a few pics

Ash Street feeds into Angel Place. Angel Place is home to the City Recital Hall as well as the permanent art installation shown in the next couple of pics. Bird noises can also be heard when you walk beneath the cages. surryhills reported that 'China Town' (an offshoot of China Doll/China Beach) will open a restaurant on Angel Place, at the Recital Hall. Surryhills also mentioned Armani Dolci (the cafe branch of the Armani Empire) perhaps opening a cafe near their Emporio Armani/Giorgio Armani flagship stores, and an understated location on Angel Place could be a great location! In the longer term I'd love to see some more events like the Ivy Food Festival and pop up champagne bars/cafes in the network, even if only on a weekly basis. It allows patrons to escape the hustle and bustle of George Street and gives them a great option for a day or night out.

And here are some photos of Martin Place. Martin Place is going through a fundamental change as many of the big banks are relocating to bigger and newer offices in the CBD. As such the iconic Commonwealth Bank Money Box and its partner in crime (the other CBA Building) present exciting and unique opportunities for new uses. Cariad reported that he had heard Harry Winston is one of the potential tenants in the old banking chambers, and no doubt other luxury brands would be keen to aline themselves with some of the most impressive interiors in the land. The conversion of Ash Street into a vibrant laneway has been so rapid. I remember just a few years ago before Ivy the only thing you'd find in that laneway was the Word Bookshop.

Replicating Melbourne's laneways will be very hard. Our layout of lanes is vastly different to Melbourne. In Melbourne they lead you somewhere. In Sydney another story...

I just hope all our laneways dont get the generic council street art aesthetic treatment by the SOC. I really like the grungy un treated looks of laneways with destination businesses in them like Shady pines, Love tilly devine, Baxter inn etc.

Temperance lane is the perfect example of a sydney laneway! It goes no where, but it has a destination business (Grasshopper), an off the grid feel, al fresco seating and a simple and not over done arty installation.
