Columbia is nice but it does not look like a city of 744K more like 300K maybe...Nice photos.

Having driven through Columbia many many times, it feels like a metro of 3/4 of a million people. Trust me. Thanks for the pics! I think Columbia looks kind of like Charleston in some places. Miss me some Rush's!

It's a municipality of about 130,000 and a metro of about 750,000. That's about the way it feels in person and its skyline and downtown reflect that, IMO.

LSyd, did you get a new camera? Great shots as always!

Columbia is a very nice city, almost moved there once.

I also love its location, 2 hours from the beach and 2 hours from the mountains.

some pics from july: canal side, the vista, five points, downtown, and wheeler hill

Canal Side - formerly the site of Central Correctional Institute, the prison complex was torn down except for some walls and is now a residential neighborhood with some mixed use being phased in

3

the Vista - old warehouse district turned into a nightlife entertainment area. i took these pics the night before the opening of an old railroad tunnel converted into a bike path, providing a direct link to Findlay Park

"Vista South" - aka "Innovista," where the University of South Carolina's manifest destiny will infill every lot between it and the river with housing, offices, laboratories, sports fields and the like

this building soon to be replaced with private dorms...
11

this lot is part of that project
12

and across the railroad flyover, there's another private dorm proposal to tear down this historic building
13

future home of USC's business school
14

Wheeler Hill - lots of nice new houses with great views and within walking distance to USC and downtown
15

16

17

Five Points - an entertainment area next to USC

this should've been a mixed-use 4-6 story building, but the neighborhood association (good for preservation and boosting local biz) threw a fit, so we got a mixed-results drugstore chain
18

Hootie and the Blowfish monument :haha::tup:

and now, some downtown
