SHENZHEN | China Resources Headquarters Main Tower | 525m | 1722ft | Prep

Finally we can confirm this one is real.

Facts according to this press release:

It'll be built next to Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.
The design will resemble the sports center [facade].
Construction (they likely mean ground breaking ceremony) will take place in April 2011, and hopefully we'll know a lot about the final layout by then.

Preliminary, unofficial render. It's been on the forums for 2 years now. It looks a lot like the sports center, so maybe the actual design will be based on this one.

There are basketball courts everywhere; in southern china at least. When driving on the highways, you can see courts behind industrial complexes :x

Construction will start in April! This seems to be confirmed. And they confirm that it will have the same look as the Stadium!

ShenzhenDaily - Feb. 21st.:

Quote:
WORK will start on the construction of the China Resources (Holdings) Co. Ltd.’s headquarters in Shenzhen in April.

Located near the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Nanshan District, the building will be 460 meters, taller than the 441.8-meter Kingkey 100, which opened last year, but lower than the 646-meter Shenzhen Ping An Finance Building, which is still under construction.

That article is incorrect about the Kingkey building, which is still U/C.

Looks like a race between Shenzhen and Guangzhou, who will become the premier city in the Pearl River Delta.

from population there are similar, but Shenzhen is a lot smaller and therefor has a higher density. On the other side Guangzhou will start eating other cities, Foshan and for that there needs the new CBD to be build and that means a lot of skyscrapers too x)

Kingkey has actually opened, but hasn't topped out. The mall is opened for 1 month now. So in a way it's opened.

We live in a world in which our fuel resources are shrinking rapidly, growing constantly more expensive and are prone to frequent disruptions in power supply. Apart from these direct influences, combustion of fuel is causing immense and irreversible harm to our environment, depleting the all-important ozone layer and adding to the Green House Effect, which is resulting in Global Warming and abrupt changes in climatic patterns all over the world.

Pics of the sports center, by 1788111. The cladding of the tower should look a lot like it.
