It is quite interesting that a building like this with a circular footprint has a square core. I would have expected a circular core.
Anyways, good to see progress on this- it is one of the few new supertalls in Shenzhen that is unique and interesting.

Core is the hearth of a skyscraper with most important parts of a building integrated (elevators, emergency stairs, utilities) and most efficient and also only logical footprint of that is square. As it is not visible from outside it really doesn't matter what form it has (design-wise).

I'm not a "core expert" but i don't remember a building with a circular core.
Would be interesting to know about...
Shanghai tower had a square core too:

I think this is because the space for elevators etc. can be used more economical in a square instead of a circle.

jin mao was 'circular' (close enough to call it that at least). only know it because this question came up before and i remember the reply it had. can't find any good pictures though. also zhengzhou greenland. but yeah both more like an octagon.

That are good infos,
both towers are more or less spiral shaped. So i had an idea but this goes wrong: spiral / vortex shape = circular core.
Moskovs Evolution and Panamas F&F Tower had both a square core. More or less

I don't think the height was ever reduced. They probably rounded the height figure to 400 on their website.

It's not nice that a height is rounded so much only because of our decimal number system.
