where did you get this information double U? Why would they approve the building then change its height? They are working very fast on this project and it is labled as 500 meters on gaoloumi.
Update from Gaoloumi:

yeah but a problem like this killed other buildings in this phase before, just think about Crown Las Vegas, which was cancelled completely because of airport issue stuff. I really hope the building will stay 525m, but it is doubtful.

I am working on this project!

Not sure why they revised the height afterwards. Normally all the guidelines are set by the local design institute. But in the case of Houhai they should have said at the very beginning that this area is at the flying paths and limit building heights.

What will be done to decrease the height to 400m is to reduce the floor height and lantern structure coz they still wanna go for the same GFA. Will see how things go.

Hi DoubleU,

I was the one who wrote the letter to Shenzhen Daily published earlier about the problem, actually there were quite a few unpublished points there. I live near Qianhaiwan area, and heard some things even from Baoan district govt, why for instance Central Govt controlled area in Qianhaiwan got the 500 m height allowance even though it is far more on the flying path to Bao'an airport than the location of CRC tower.

A funny suggestion there was not to give up, but to work with SZ city govt and the flight authority to instead designate the tower as a navigational centerpoint for the flights there, and use that spire you got there for the function - frankly, if you ask me, that teardrop design only works within that 450 - 600 m height scale, and if you reduce floor heights, the future demands for raised floorings/ceilings etc may make the building obsolete too fast - after all, avg floor-floor office height went up from 3.8 to like 4.6 m for grade A buildings the past 20 years that I follow skyscrapers...

The point is: don't give up, I believe there is a political/strategic/other angle possible here to appeal and justify the original (if not even slightly greater) height as a landmark. CRC, after all, is an enormously large and powerful corporation both in HK (beef monopoly) and mainland, and its very move to SZ would be reason enough even for Central Govt to be a bit more flexible... I saw the other day their models in the MixC mall, all the new developments linked to the company in SZ, it is many tens of billions of RMB just there!

Interesting informaion. Is the developer pushing the aviation administration for the original height of 500meter +?

Thanks for your comment, NNshenzhen.
As it seems right now the tower will be built with the reduced height to 400m. And I highly doubt that they will change and revise it a third time. Still, 400m is quite tall compared to most of the ~200m towers at the CBD in Futian and I can imagine while driving towards Houhai on Binhai Dadao it will be an impressive sight.

400m may fail to stay at Shenzhen top 10 within a decade.

SSC has 9 threads already for buildings over 400m, plus there is one rumored to be 400m and one 400m twin structure that still has an unclear status and probably some i forgot about. So i can completely agree, after all the decade has still some years to go

still can't believe what i see on this page lately Shenzhen related. I get the feeling Shenzhen will be the first city to have a chance to beat Dubai on this list: http://ultrapolisproject.com/Tallest...nes_Cities.htm

can't see that site. it's "forbidden" . But indeed, Shenzhen could really beat Dubai with the number of Supertalls in the future!
It will be hard, but it's possible.
Shenzhen will get another Supertall soon, then it will overtake Abu Dhabi and will be on place 6 already
