ang Paris before may height limit, I think lifted na yun these days. I just wish gawin nalang part of "Old Manila" ang bay portion/port area. More on classical architecture, tipong hindi height ang paguusapan, kundi yung mismong design at details.

Manila is a unique city, it's a place where the old meets the new, there's no place in M Mla. where you could stroll over the streets of Intramuros overlooking the skyline of it's neighbor districts.. We just have to preserve the old and embrace the new...

Outside of the walls of Intramuros, tubig ang nakapaligid at yang Port Area ay dating bahagi ng Manila Bay. Reclaimed lang yan. So it will be a tough sell and call it part of "Old Manila" since historically, there was not even a land there.

BTW, I think the cap in height restriction is still enforced in Paris inner city.

Manila pushes Bay reclamation plan
By LEONARD D. POSTRADO
June 15, 2011, 5:12pm

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City Council has given Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim the green-light to seek permission from the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) to reclaim a portion of Manila Bay and transform the body of water into a sprawling financial district of the city.

Manila Third District Councilor Joel Chua confirmed that his ordinance granting authority to Lim to file an application with the PRA to reclaim a portion of Manila Bay was passed last June 6. He said that city government is considering the establishment of the proposed business hub near the city’s border with Pasay.

"It is about time that Manila puts up its own business district to make the city more competitive and attractive to investors. I must admit that we are being left behind by other cities. That's why this plan is timely,” he told the Manila Bulletin in an interview.

Under Chua's ordinance, the proposed area for reclamation would start from the city's original southern coastline border with Pasay City in accordance with the 1949 Revised Charter of Manila with established boundary points prescribed in section 5 (1) beginning at a point near the south bank of the Estero de Maytubig.

“If for any reason or reasons, any part or provisions of this Ordinance shall be held unconstitutional or invalid, other parts or provisions hereof, which are not affected thereby, shall continue to be in full force and effect,” the ordinance said.

The newly passed ordinance was signed by Lim and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno and was attested to the Secretary to the Mayor lawyer Rafaelito Garayblas and Secretary to the City Council Luch Gemphis.

Earlier, Lim announced that he had been mulling on putting up a financial district in the city which will be better than, if not at par with, Makati's Central Business District and Taguig's financial hub.

His first plan was to put up the business district in a 20-hectare idle lot in the Manila Port Area. However, the plan was shelved due to legal issues.

Once the Manila Bay reclamation plan is approved, Chua said the city government may resort to either a public-private partnership scheme (PPP) or a joint venture program in developing and transforming the reclaimed land.

The development project will also be bidded out to contractors once the proposal to reclaim a portion of the Manila Bay is approved by the PRA.

“The city government will be tapping private property developers to help them create the city's own financial hub. From there, the city will have a share and of course it means more revenue for Manila,” he said.
WTF? Now Lim is in favor of reclamation??? He was the one opposed to a proposed plan to reclaim the bay because it would block the sunset, now he wants to do it.

If only he reclaimed the land in the 90's as planned, Manila would already have a cool CBD that would rival Makati, since its location would be near the water.

Saan banda yung plano ni Lim mag-reclaim??? Dont tell me they will reclaim part of the historic and scenic Roxas Blvrd its such a stupid plan or they will reclaim the Manila Yatch Club area???....For me just relocate those people at Baseco compound and use that land, sayang yung land na yun paniguradong pag aagawan ng mga developers yun dahil seaside na malapit pa sa offices, in this way they dont need to reclaim and they can simultaneously remove that eyesore in manila bay (which is also the source of garbage and pollutants) at the same time improve the peace and order situation there.

Why Baseco settlers are untouchables? Where is the political will of Mayor Lim to clean Baseco and make it the site of the new project?...just asking!

I wonder what were the original plans for the reclaimed land we now call 'Baseco Compound'? Most likely an annex for the port... it didn't look as bad in 2001, but now, ughhh! How careless can the authorities be to allow this? Seems like overflow of people from Tondo area... are they extending the reclamation?

That Baseco compound is almost half the size of the proposed financial center.

sa inner paris meron pa ring height and architectural limit. sa la defence, paris yung mga highrises nila.

london on the other hand lifted their height limit so you see highrise buildings side by side with the old ones.

If this will push through, Manila will be the brightest city in the metro, and every Filipino will be proud of this Capital city. I really hope Mayor Lim and other officials be badly serious about the realization of this plan. It's the time to shine again, Manila!

Just a little info. We are on a bid to host the 2019 asian games. Kalaban natin ang Dubai and Singapore. There are also rumors that Manila will vie to host 2024 Summer Olympics.

taller buildings saves land space... especially Manila is already crowded

eg: i would rather have 1 50-story building than 25 2-story buildings that occupies 25x as much land
