Your City's City Hall Or Municipal Building

Pretty straightforward. Show us what the city hall looks like in your city, and if you'd like, a few stats and historical tidbits on it.

I can't find a good shot of Madison's, but Milwaukee has one of the most beautiful in the country.

Brisbane City Hall

Facts:

Brisbane City Hall has an imposing 70 m clock tower (rising 91 m above ground level), based on the design of the St Mark's Campanile in Venice, Italy. Above the main entrance is a bronze awning and the doors are made of bronze. Extending from both sides of the entrance are ionic colonnades. Lions heads are found above these columns.

The four clock faces on each side of the tower are the largest in Australia. The Clock has Westminster Chimes, which sound on the quarter hour, and can be heard from the Queen St Mall and, at times, in the surrounding suburbs.

The centre of City Hall features a stunning auditorium, based on the Pantheon, Rome, and several smaller reception rooms. The auditorium is a large circular hall that can seat up to 2,500 people and is covered by a large copper dome.

philadelphia city hall used to be the tallest building in the world and people thought building higher than the statue caused a curse that made philadelphia's sports teams suck monkey ass for several decades.

This is Aarhus City Hall. It was designed 60 years ago by Arne Jacobsen and it is still a modern, functionalistic beautiful building with its norwegian marble as facade cladding.

I never knew Philadelphias city hall was once the highest building in the world (it still is the highest brick building). Very Impressive.

Most of the other city halls are very beautiful too. The Aarhus city hall is quite ugly though

Berlin has much more beautiful city halls. Every district has its own sub-city-hall. Would be worth a own thread I think..

While I agree with your sentiment that this thread has been done at least once before, the thread you refer to is only for classical style Town Halls. Many halls are modern in design.

What?? Building in what sense?

The pyramids stood 480 feet tall 4000 years earlier...

While not the most obviously beautiful, I don't agree Aarhus city hall is directly ugly. It is sort of original in a way.

Probably the sort of building that some people who are more interested in architecture than most people are, will like/think is interesting, while the regular joe will find more classic city halls much nicer.
