Must be Freddie Roach's protege...

Very good fight. Big Heart by Alvarado.
Provodnikov deserves another fight with Bradley.

Mayweather, Pacquiao Await: Ruslan Provodnikov Nears Top of the World
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mayweat...0661--box.html

Quote:
When Ruslan Provodnikov stopped Mike Alvarado on HBO Saturday night, he not only became the WBO junior welterweight champion, but quite possibly made himself a blip on the radar of boxing's two biggest stars-Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The hard-charging Russian brawler needed a memorable victory in order to move to that next level of stardom and he definitely achieved that with a dominant offensive performance that basically forced the hard-as-nails-defending champ to quit in front of his own hometown fans. For Alvarado, it was a career-ending type of defeat. For Provodnikov, though, it was the kind of night and the kind of performance that leads the way to instant star status. Provodnikov will now find himself in the unique position of reaching the high point of his career while both Mayweather and Pacquiao are in great need of new, fresh opposition that can be marketed to fans as legitimate challenges. And after Saturday's victory, it would be hard not to believe in Ruslan as a real threat to anyone in the 140-147 lb. weight range.

Although likely a guaranteed classic, a bout between Provodnikov and Pacquiao do have some built-in obstacles that might make the pairing hard to put together. First, both Pacquiao and Provodnikov are trained by Freddie Roach and the high-profile trainer's allegiance would probably be with Pacquiao. Second, would Pacquiao even consider fighting his sparring partner and friend? And third, there's the little detail of the upcoming November 23 showdown between Brandon Rios and Pacquiao, which is no slam dunk-easy guaranteed win for the Filipino icon. On the other hand, a move over to Showtime to take on Floyd Mayweather would make a lot of sense for Provodnikov and his bottom line. Not only would the 29-year-old be taking on the sport's consensus top fighter, but he'd likely get a bigger payday than he would against Pacquiao. It's not hard to see Showtime pushing a USA vs. Russia Cold War theme to sell this one, especially as the network has seemed intent upon at least partially rebuilding Mayweather's negative public image. Given the angle and the personalities involved, the show would likely do huge numbers and even the jaded hardcore fans would be hard-pressed to dismiss Provodnikov as anything less than completely legitimate and deserving as a Mayweather B-side. But the big question is whether or not Mayweather would actually want to fight Provodnikov. But despite the obstacles, there remains a path to both Mayweather and Pacquiao. Provodnikov has come a long way from his previous role as entertaining ESPN2 oddity. The Boxing Promised Land could be just one fight away for Ruslan Provodnikov-unless politics find a way to muck things up.

Pelullo wants Bradley, Pacquiao-Rios winner for Provodnikov next
http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/1...or-provodnikov

Quote:
Banner Promotions' President Artie Pelullo, who guides newly crowned WBO junior welterweight titleholder Ruslan Provodnikov, would like "The Siberian Rocky's" next fight to be a rematch with WBO welterweight beltholder Tim Bradley or else a matchup with the winner of next month's 147-pound bout between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios.

Provodnikov (23-2, 16 knockouts) earned his championship belt by scoring two eighth-round knockdowns on the way to Saturday night's 10th-round stoppage of Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KOs) and in victory rebounded from that very memorable unanimous decision loss in in March against Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs). "I think that Ruslan is the most exciting fighter in the business today. I want to see him fight in another big fight," said Pelullo. "I would like to do the winner of Pacquiao-Rios in Russia. Whoever wins that fight, or else, Bradley or Marquez. They're all great fights for Ruslan right now. I would just have to sit down and talk with Ruslan," said Pelullo.

Would love to see a Manny Pacquiao vs Ruslan Provodnikov match!

Provodnikov-Pacquiao showdown possible: Arum
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/10...-possible-arum

Quote:
MANILA, Philippines – New world light-welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia has a lot of options following his stoppage victory over Mike Alvarado last weekend that allowed him to annex the World Boxing Organization belt. “Bradley and winner of Pacquiao vs (Brandon) Rios are out there,” said Provodnikov’s promoter, Artie Pelullo, on ESPN. One interesting option for Provodnikov, nicknamed the “Siberian Rocky,” is a bout against Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao, for whom he has served as a sparring partner in the past.

“Why not?” Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum told Ronnie Nathanielsz of Boxing Scene when asked about a Pacquiao-Provodnikov showdown. However, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, who trains both Pacquiao and Provodnikov, does not think this fight will happen. “They are good friends, and I don’t think they’ll fight,” Roach said. If a Pacquiao fight does not materialize, Provodnikov still has other options, including a rematch with Alvarado. He can also take on Timothy Bradley in a rematch after losing a close decision to the American last March.

Impressive but classless to taunt the guy who has been knocked out... throat slash gesture while pointing at him... Act like you have knocked out someone before...

We did not see Marquez mocking Pacman after he went to snoozeville...

But who is this Marvin Somodio?

Has he been helping out training Pacman?
How long has he been working for Roach?

Hope he can eventually train more pinoy boxers.
