Thanks for these excellent pictures. Despite the terrible destruction it makes a much more orderly impression than what is transported by media. The picture with the slums on the slope of the mountain is amazing.

Fala, BrazilTeen... Sou jornalista. Trabalho para a agência pública de notícias, a Agência Brasil. Fui cobrir as eleições e a epidemia de cólera no país.

I am a journalist. I work for the brazilian public news agency (Agência Brasil) and I went to Haiti to report about the elections and the cholera epidemics...

Actually, Port-au-Prince resembles a bit poorer areas in marginal cities all over Latin America, including Brazil. Of course, levels of poverty in Port-au-Prince are higher than brazilian cities. Concerning the lack of basic sanitation, however, there is no similar in Latin America. Open sewers, dust, garbages, improvised toilets are ominpresent, everywhere you look.

In fact, Port-au-Prince looked more like Benin (Cotonou and Ouidah), where I have been in 2006, than Latin America.

so sad that the presidential palace and cathedral were destroyed by the earthquake.. hope they can one day rebuild it, because those seemed one of the few nice buildings of the city.

(I don't forget that the sadest was the lost of lifes)
