Don't keep the footbridge! It blocks the view of a Watson Fothergill building, clear it out and make a square there so we can all admire it's beauty!

Looks like Capital are bringing forward plans to start the extension next year... also very interesting that they plan to redesign the clocktower entrance

It will be interesting to see what they say they'll get rid of to create a square round the clock tower. But whatever it is won't detract from the appalling shed they want to build backing onto Huntingdon Street.

Truly awful isnt it ;-( guess Capital are trying to sweeten it by doing something with the clock tower. Wouldn't imagine this would be very good either judging by their past efforts with the centre.
Makes me worry about Westfield though, if Capital bag the best tenants by starting early will Broadmarsh still be viable ? |

I suspect that Nottingham is in no way big enough to support these two large scale retail plans and maintain a healthy shopping core in between. Don't forget the threat from online shopping too. Time will tell.

They could probably win me over by doing something interesting with the hole/tunnel area as opposed to just filling it in.

Like what? When you're in the bowels of the Viccy Centre, you might as well be in an underground tunnel anyway...

The Victoria Centre will be holding a second public exhibition on the proposed extension to the Centre in June. Capital Shopping Centres Group plc, the owners of the Victoria Centre, have submitted detailed plans of the scheme to Nottingham City Council. This exhibition will allow local people to view these improvement plans, which have been refined after consulting widely with local residents, shoppers, the business community, and politicians. Come and meet the team at the public consultation on the upper mall of the Victoria Centre (by House of Fraser) on Friday 17 June from 10am – 5pm

It just looks like a massive cardboard box, very closed and uninspiring. Isn't this the problem we have with the current broadmarsh shopping centre? On the plus side, it does fit in with the surrondings I guess.
Are there any artists impressions of what the Victoria Clock Tower redevelopment will look like? |

This is essentially a northern gateway to the city centre and as such the council should request it delivers somthing more inviting and inspiring.

This is truly horrible from every angle. I guess post recession (??) the developers are more constrained by costs but this is just a bad joke!
Interesting comparison with Highcross, the VC extension is slightly larger yet over £100M cheaper, sadly therefore no Foreign Office architecture for us. The owners of the centre have just bolted on eyesores over the past 20 years which have made the centre look worse (hard to imagine I know). Look at the Next extension or the John Lewis roof extension – awful! Guess this shows what they think of Nottingham and what we should expect from the extension. I worry this is really bad news for Notts, not only is it cheap and nasty but it would be the size of Meadowhall and would completely dominate the City centre. There is a fine balance at present and this needs to be maintained. Lets hope the council grow a pair and throw this out. |

Westfield have been bashed for years now, and have finally got theyre plans right. Cant the council do the same with this? Or is it the fact that it will gain easy money? Cause in 20-30 years time, this will be horribly dated, (it already looks it to me tbh).
If they made it abit more open, it could attract more developers to the North/Eastside of the city. |
