Siam Park City rebrands ahead of SET listing

By The Nation Published on March 2, 2011

Siam Park City, the operator of the Bangkok amusement park of that name, has changed the company name to City Walk to adjust its image from that of a family business to prepare for listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

Managing director Wuthichai Luangamornlert said that the new company came into effect at the beginning of the year. It plans to list on the SET in the third quarter of 2012.

It has set three business plans to be undertaken after listing on the Thai bourse. The first is to develop the City Walk entertainment complex on 70 rai (about 11 hectares) near the current Siam City Park, which will require a budget of Bt2 billion to Bt3 billion. The second plan is to expand existing the water park under an estimated budget of Bt300 billion to Bt400 million. The third plan is to expand its business line to construct a convention hall or a hotel, which will require a budget of no less than Bt200 million.

The company is talking with a partner in Malaysia for co-investment.

He said the company would also join Tourism Authority of Thailand roadshows in seven countries under a budget of Bt1 million, as it prepares to target the overseas market.

"We aim to increase the proportion of foreign visitors by 10 times within three years. The number of foreign visitors at Siam Park is targeted at 300,000 this year, jumping to 600,000 in 2012 and 1 million foreigners in 2013. We expect the total number of Thai and foreign visitors in 2013 will be 3 million," he said.

As it begins aggressive marketing overseas, Wuthichai said revenue would increase no less than 30 per cent a year from the Bt550 million expected this year.

He said the company wanted to become the market leader in the water-park and amusement-park business in Southeast Asia and then the rest of Asia in the near future.

The company has set a budget of Bt3 billion this year for installing new amusement equipment and improving services.

Siam City Park aims for 2M visitors this year

THE NATION Published on March 9, 2011

Siam Park City aims to increase the number of visits to its amusement park from 1.3 million last year to 2 million this year, and up to 3 million in the next three to five years.

Managing director Wuthichai Luangamornlert said the company also targeted ticket sales to increase to Bt550 million this year, up from Bt400 million last year. The company achieved Bt30 million in net profit in 2010.

He said about Bt350 million of the target would come from Thai visitors, an increase by 10 per cent over last year.

"We expect the number of visits to our amusement park to reach 3 million in the next three to five years, of which about 2 million visits will from Thai customers, and another 1 million from foreign tourists," Wuthichai said.

The major amusement park in Bangkok is now operated by a new company named City Walk, which is in line with its preparation for listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, scheduled by the third quarter of 2012. The City Walk company will also increase its registered capital from Bt150 million currently to Bt300 million before listing on the stock market.

Wuthichai said he would make roadshows to several potential markets around the world to promote the amusement park. Its selling point is value for money compared with other amusement parks around the globe. A day-pass ticket at Siam Park City sells for Bt900.

"We took a roadshow to New Delhi in January and to Mumbai and Jakarta in February. We will also conduct a roadshow in Moscow next week and in Hong Kong and Taiwan in March," Wuthichai said.

He said the company wanted to increase the number of foreign visitors from between 20,000 and 30,000 last year, mainly from Russia, India and Hong Kong, to about 100,000 by the end of this year.

The company also aims to increase the number of foreign visitors by 10 times to reach 1 million within three to four years.

Wuthichai said the new City Walk company came into existence at the beginning of the year.

"We have transferred all assets, including major rides at our amusement park, to the new City Walk company. Our previous firm, Siam Park City, will become a holding company with a 99.99-per-cent stake in City Walk," he said.

Wuthichai said the company had set three business plans to be undertaken after listing on the Thai bourse. The first is to develop the City Walk entertainment complex on 70 rai (about 11 hectares) near the current Siam Park City, which will require a budget of Bt1 billion. The second plan is to expand the existing water park with an estimated budget of between Bt100 billion to Bt200 million.

Siam Park City is spread over a 360-rai plot, of which 90 per cent area is occupied by amusement rides. The park has 36 rides throughout the complex, with 12 major rides, including the 783-metre-long Vortex and the 75-metre-high Giant Drop. A new ride, Log Flume, which will be launched by October, will occupy 7 rai.
