But they definitely discourage speeding due to safety hazards that is why speed limit was put at around 60-80mph max in every state. For Europe, try Germany/Austria... they dont encourage speeds in excess of 120kph, but one can go more than that if their car can achieve it.

I think the design speed for this STAR tollway could be 60-80kph. At the current state of RP hi-ways, to enable a motorist to attain a 150kph speed, some elements should align: i.e. nicely paved and clear roads, good weather, lots of money for fuel, and a vehicle that can attain such a speed.
NLEX and SCEX are capable of handling in excess of 150kph. Kinurakot lang yang STAR kaya ang pangit ng gawa! Same with the ongoing SLEX project. Malas talaga mga taga south luzon!

Some sections of the German autobahn does not have speed limit, you can see cars here running above 200 kph.

CA OKs fraud trial of former construction exec

By Leila Salaverria
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines -- The Court of Appeals has allowed the prosecution of the former chairman of the board of highway developer Star Infrastructure Development Corp., (SIDC) for allegedly defrauding the company of more than P100 million.

The appellate court upheld the denial by the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Cezar Quiambao's plea to have his trial for estafa (fraud) postponed, pending an appeal on his indictment.

In one of the two charges he is facing, Quiambao is accused of misappropriating P85.808 million of SIDC funds. The SIDC, represented by Louie Turgo as complainant, charged Quiambao with disbursing money to his two companies, Stradec and Strategic Alliance Holdings Inc., without authority, as well as to his brother.

In the second case, Quiambao stands accused of defrauding SIDC of P15.18 million which he allegedly converted to his personal use and benefit.

Turgo, who is also the complainant in this case, alleged Quiambao used deceit when he obtained the funds from SIDC in the form of loan repayments and salaries.

The SIDC is involved in the development of the skyway on the South Luzon Expressway, among other projects.

The charges against Quiambao were filed in the Pasig RTC on June 4, 2007.

Haay naku...

To STAR Infrastructure Development Corp.: Look at this!!!! There are beggars on these tollgates You made your own expressway as a 3rd class!!

Sana SLTC should take over the management talaga ng STAR Tollway para lang i-pave ng high quality asphalt ang entire stretch or reblock the stretch between Malvar and Lipa with a high-quality cement kagaya sa Lipa-Batangas stretch at Sto. Tomas-Malvar stretch. And they should modernize up to the par of NLEx. Or, SLEx and STAR should left NLEx behind as the most modern expressway in our country na may high-tech features na pinakamaganda...

Was it raining at the time the picture was taken? Maybe the toll booth was being used as cover from the rain for the time being. Still, what are those kids doing at a toll booth?

Could of been a rainy day where people started to seek shelter, because the windshield of that car looks obviously wet.... but heck, they are all sitting down on the pavement. Usually, if people are just taking shelter, they are mostly standing up. Those people looks like they are sitting comfy on the ground. I don't see anything that indicates they are peddling or selling something.

STAR tollway could handle speed in excess of 150kph. My van's (a first generation Toyota Revo 1.8 GLI) speedometer could only run until 150 kph and tried it to the limit about two or three times. My usual travel speed at STAR tollway when I am in the Philippines is about 120 - 140 kph and the road handled fine with no bumpy feeling to the ride whatsoever. I have not tried this in on the new stretch from Lipa to Batangas City as it was still under construction the time I had my vacation last December.

You must be on a different highway. STAR Tollway is unsafe at 150kph. THe surface is just not up to spec.

Hay naku.... STAR Tollway management ang nagpapabaya sa mga toll gates nila... diba, bawal ang mga pedestrian sa mga expressway....

I really hope that SLTC should take STAR Tollway's franchise and either pave the entire stretch with high quality asphalt or reblock the stretch between Malvar and Lipa with high quality cement just like its extension to Batangas City and the stretch between Sto. Tomas and Malvar so they can modernize it along with rehabilitated SLEx up to the par or ahead of NLEx and SCTEx. And then, they should rename that tollway as "Batangas Port Expressway" or "Batangas-Mindoro Expressway?" And then, they should implement proper rules and regulations to prevent those squatters from staying in the tollgates...

I am from Batangas City and I take the STAR Tollway everytime I go to Manila. Going from Lipa to Sto. Tomas, like I said, my normal travel speed is from 120 to 140 kph. On the other side, from Sto. Tomas to Lipa, my normal travel speed is 100 to 120 as this side is mostly uphill. I admit that there are some parts that are bumpy but most parts are comfortable. My passengers usually sleep when we are in the STAR Tollway all the way to the Shell station in San Pedro as the condition and speed of the car compensates for the small bumps on the road. The suspension of my Toyota Revo handles well in STAR Tollway.
