Air France Winter 2011 /2012 Reduction

Air France will reduce IAD service for Winter 2011 /2012. For the most part, this is nothing new... At least the A388 will continue in to the non-peak travel months.

Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is to increase service from 5 weekly to 6 weekly flights. Monday would be the added weekly flight, commencing October 30, 2011.
http://airlineroute.net/2011/07/01/tk-laxiad-s11/

According to MWAA website's July 2011 flight guide, Icelandair will discontinue service to IAD on July 27, 2011. I went to Icelandair's website and tried to book a flight after July 27th. I could not find a non-stop flight. JetBlue will shuttle passengers to either BOS or JFK in order to connect to an Icelandair flight. Darn shucks...

Turkish Airlines Capacity Increase Update

Turkish Airlines will add a 6th weekly flight commencing August 29, 2011. Previously the 6th weekly flight was to launch on October 30, 2011. The 6th weekly flight will utilize an A333. By March 25, 2012, service will increase to daily.

I can't really imagine Icelandair being able to compete with all those full service carriers operating transatlantic routes from IAD. They worked for some time at BWI because passengers needed them to connect to other places in Europe, which passengers at IAD clearly don't need.

It was nice to have another foreign carrier out of IAD though I did not think Icelandair would have lasted long at IAD. Perhaps if Icelandair's marketing plan was a bit more intense, they "may" have had a chance.

In other news... Typical BA changes for W11 season...

I remember back in the mid '90s when flying in and out of IAD was cheap enough to avoid the long drive of having to fly out of BWI for ultra cheap prices. Over the past several years now getting a flight out of IAD is obscene and somewhat equally priced as DCA. lol

I would fly DCA more if they had more late night flights out to the west coast. It's really convenient for me to catch a train from downtown DC after rush hour, get to DCA around 8 or 9 pm, check in, go though security then catch a flight out at midnight to 5 am, then get to the west coast just before lunchtime.

Well you can thank slot restrictions, perimeter restrictions and noise level restrictions for lack of convenience.

...and the MWAA board voted yesterday to move the Dulles Metro Station to above ground. The location will be up against Parking Garage 1. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

It appears Icelandair will not be leaving IAD as first indicated in July 2011 MWAA flight guide. I as well read nothing on airlineroute.net or wiki.
http://www.mwaa.com/file/MWAA_August_2011.pdf (page 79)

Though I am going to call Icelandair and ask.

Something I found by accident... Lufthansa is considering A380 service to IAD in the future.

At least there is an underground moving walkway so passengers will not have to actually walk across the parking lot to get to the station:

True... It will only add a couple of minutes of time as compared to the underground station. I am for the underground station due to convenience of not having to step outside when exiting the train. Perhaps if they could enclose the above ground station in a conditioned environment, I may not mind an above ground station.

British Airways Route Update - W11

Typical British Airways route updated from IAD to LHR for W11:
http://airlineroute.net/2011/08/10/ba-w11-update4/

...also I missed this one, Korean Air now uses 773-ER on their IAD -ICN service. I am not sure when the equipment upgrade occurred.

DCA Runway Project

DCA

I nearly forgot about this project. The main runway at DCA is being overhauled. Work will be accomplished in the night hours in order to minimize flight disruptions:

I've always wondered...is the noise really that bad at Reagan, as opposed to any other airport in residential areas (like BWI)?

United /IAD Route Updates

Some typical United updates for W11. Others include Continental takeover on certain destinations and United's non-stop cancellation to Rio de Janeiro though the service will still be direct via Sao Paulo.

OpenSkies to Suspend Service From IAD

OpenSkies, starting October 29, 2011, will suspend service from IAD to ORY due to economic conditions. Though in the posted article, Openskies states it may re-enter the market if economic conditions warrant.
