On the other hand, AF's A380 flights seem to be doing fairly well, based on what people say on other forums...

That is definitely good news.

Some more potential good news... Lufthansa is considering A380 service to Dulles. (Please note the article is from March 27, 2011):
http://dcinternationalist.wordpress....les-in-future/

Currently Lufthansa has upto two daily flights to Frankfurt and once daily to Munich.

United - Buenos Aires flight to EWR

Well we Dulles geeks cannot have it all. (I find this one upsetting):

I hear AirTran will cease operations out of Dulles in the summer. But Southwest will still be there.

That is correct. IAD will be one of five airTran destinations to be terminated.
http://airlineroute.net/2011/11/14/fl-jun12/

Southwest will continue their DIA and MDW service from IAD.

I thought landing fees and airport charges were too high at Dulles for it to be profitable to low cost airlines. The bulk seem to be at DCA (which is a fun airport btw).

So, it looks as if the financing for the second phase of the Dulles Rail extension has been shored up.

Also, given the likelihood that the station at Dulles Airport will be above ground, will it look anything like the MARTA station at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Int'l Airport?

I do not think a design has been submitted for the IAD station as of yet. Though I will look into it and post anything I find.

Also...
Starting April 30, 2012, United will extend daily its Dubai service to Doha, Qatar. This will be the second airline with daily service to Qatar. The other is Qatar Airways.

I have been looking closely at the diagram of the proposed station layout:

and it looks as if they may do a center platform station -though I will be looking forward to anything you find if they do confirm that.

More route updates from IAD...

Lufthansa has reversed its decision to utilize an A346 starting April 21, 2012. Instead 744 service will continue.
http://airlineroute.net/2011/12/20/lh-s12update3/

Avianca has extended direct service to La Paz, Bolivia via Bogota. This will be the third city in Bolivia seviced from IAD. The other two are Cochabama and Santa Cruz with AeroSur.
http://www.airtransportnews.aero/article.pl?id=32912

Effective on October 28, 2012 for the W11 - 12 season, Air France's A380 service will be replaced with a 77W (777-300ER).
http://airlineroute.net/2011/12/16/af-w12update1/

USAirways will be expanding operations out of DCA. Destinations will be annouced during January 2012. This is due to an exchange of slots with Delta Airlines. The text of USAirways expanding out of DCA is towards the bottom of the article.

As of now I have not found anything definitive relative to a submitted design of the IAD Metro Station. Silver Line's Phase II has not commenced.

The "first phase" of new US destinations from DCA have been announced (appears to be 21 new daily flights, out of the 42 slot pairs they received):

http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....979&highlight=

Quote:
Nonstop, daily flights to Birmingham, Ala.; Fayetteville, N.C.; Islip, N.Y.; Little Rock, Ark.; Jacksonville, N.C.; Pensacola, Fla.; Tallahassee, Fla. and Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. These destinations currently have no existing service from Reagan National.
New service will also be added to Memphis, Tenn.; Omaha, Neb. and Ottawa, Ontario. These communities are currently served by other carriers at Reagan National.
Daily flights will be added to Bangor, Maine and Savannah, Ga., which US Airways currently serves on weekends.
A daily nonstop frequency will be added to Hartford, Conn.
The frequencies are here:
http://airlineroute.net/2012/01/02/us-dca-s12/
(although I think "Valparaiso" is actually VPS, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.)

You Take Some and Lose Some

First the bad news... United has temporarly reduced its capacity from IAD to CDG. Currently 2x Daily flights, utilizing a 752, serve this market. From June 7, 2012 to October 26, 2012 United will be operating 1x Daily utilizing a 752.
http://airlineroute.net/2012/02/22/ua-iadcdg-s12/

I love the good news...

Etihad Airways will commence daliy non-stop service between IAD and Abu Dhabi (AUH), UAE. Based regulatory approval, service will commence on March 31, 2013... yes 2013... utilizing an A340-500 aircraft.
