DCA - New Service
Based upon DOT approval Virgina America will commence 2x Daily service from DCA to SFO. Along with United's new service to SFO, DCA could have a total of 3x daily filghts between both destinations.
With the expansion of JetBlue and new service by Virgin America, I hope to air fares continue be less in and out of DCA. Last edited by shakman; March 13th, 2012 at 04:47 PM. |

WOW!!! I have been waiting for this announcement. Recently, my father flew United to Dubai and said the plane looked to be 90% full. Now that United's Dubai flight will continue to Doha later this year, I was hoping for this announcement to come soon.
Relative to aviation, I read somehwere that the DC area is the second busiest Middle East market in the U.S. Number one being NYC. Another link. This one is from Emirates: http://www.emirates.com/english/abou...19068&offset=0

DCA - SAN
Due to the extra slots beyond the 1250 radius rule, US Airways will commence non-stop daily A319 service to San Diego, CA. This service will start June 8, 2012.
http://airlineroute.net/2012/03/22/us-dcasan-jun12/ I think this is the final slot from the latest batch. The other recent batch of slots belong to Delta (SLC), United (SFO) and American (LAX).

Aerosur Ceases Operations
On March 31, 2012 Aerosur, which had service to IAD, has ceased operations. It seams like there were some conflicts between Aerosur and the Bolivian Government, who launched Bolivian de Aviacion after the failure of Lloyd Aero Boliviano (LAB).
http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...ations-370271/ This will be the second Bolivian airline to cease operations which had service to IAD. The other being LAB. This leaves one direct flight left to Bolivia; Avianca to La Paz via Bogota.

AeroSur
On April 6th, AeroSur has resumed operations to IAD.
http://www.ch-aviation.ch/portal/airline.php?cha=5L I hope this is the end of AeroSur's problems. I enjoy watching their colors coming into Dulles.

Since I am not too familiar with the FIS at the C-Concourse, I cannot give you a definitve answer. However based of off the flight time table and passenger traffic at the IAB, I would think late morning and late night are the least busy time frames. I would think early to mid-afternoon hours would be the worst time since most flights from Europe and some Middle East flights are arriving. I hope I was able to help answer your question.

Aersur - IAD Service
Once again Aerosur has ceased service to-and-from Dulles. It is of no surprise since IMO the Bolivian market was over-saturated with destination from IAD. Currently the only direct service to Bolivia is with Avianca via Bogota. Avianca's five of the seven weekly flights continue on to La Paz, Bolivia.
Though I will miss Aerosur's "Shark" livery.
