Look at that. That angle is particularly sad. We lost as much in the last 50 years in that view as we've gained, IMHO.

I can spot the Cosmopolitan Hotel and the Metropole (a surface lot today), the Majestic, the Metropolitan, the beautiful Republic Building, the Continental Oil Building (another gorgeous one, today a bad parking garage), the Patterson Building (a 2-story lobby today), and others I can't even name (those two on 18th?). All torn down. For what? Mostly nothing. Who needs a World War to destroy a city?

EDIT: A similar angle today, from Google Earth (and a second, rotated slightly, to showcase the scale of the devastation). Like I said, that angle/that part of Denver is particularly sad, because so much of it was never replaced. Other parts of the city were torn down, but at least more was replaced.

Denver lost so much after WW2 but it looks like downtown is filling in nicely again!
