Also, BA are the official airline of 2012, I have a nice silver badge which certainly says so anyway.

Lastly, there will be 2 UA flights to LHR, 5 to BHX and 4 to MAN, so not a bad amount from just 1 country!

Oooh la la, thanxs for the info matey.

I meant USA official airline for the olympics, LOL

Hi, nice idea and without a doubt a good view But: not a chance as It would be on airport ground and they would not allow that, it is also on an area that they plan to build on with maintenance facilities.
So when they have built over the long stay carpark the only place left anywhere will be sheldon country park as far away from the terminal as you can get...

Shame really, would have been a good spot.

I believe the same fate could engulf the MAN AVP some time in the future, as that is built on airport property, and its been earmarked for future development of the hangar/cargo areas if needed.

That side world_rep suggested would be my preferred side, due to sun light etc. Though the position is mostly blocked by the new hanger on the old short runway. Maybe somewhere next to the tower might be a good place ?

Those overheads give an idea of how much space there is - I'd love to see another pier built as I've shown below.

well remember this is the strategic picture for the airport circa 2020

and new piers would ideally be located parallel with the new international pier to be as effiecient as possible

that said, whilst i agree with world_rep, i see it was a positive for the airport... its compact but i love how out the front of the buildings, it feels like a big airport, with high rise hotels, monorails etc....

After looking at the airports expansion plans stratergy, I think the possibility of a viewing facility would depend on as little Interference to the airport as possible, and yet still need to provide some positive reasoning for Its exsisitance ie-not just providing a haven for the aircraft spotter but an alround visitor centre that would help promote the airport, especialy If the backer/s where a company the airport respected.

The golf course Idea would have been a good one, nice central position, but I think the golf course are clinging on to their bit of land like gold dust, and even If It was available, the Initial outlay In putting down tarmac for a entrance road, and carpark and not forgetting a solid fence like they have fitted at Man, then the building work due to go on In that area would restrict views.

And I have read as part of the airports stratergy all old roads and paths leading off the A45 are being seald up.

Oh don't get me wrong, I wasn't knocking BHX, but more saying Im always surprised at how small it is considering its always willing to accept pretty much any divert when the UK closes down for snow.

The viewing area is so close to the runway at MAN, it would be a shame if they got rid of it.

Thats why I think any viewing facility would need to be Independent from an airport, yet combining a mixture of being close enough to get good views and be not Interfering with the airport and also be viewed by them as an asset.

I've never understood how that pier would work on the far left, sitting all alone.

The original pre 9/11 plan was to have an underground walkway, I think that was then dropped in favour of busses taking the passengers over to dedicated lounges.

I wonder if there are still plans on the backburner somewhere to replace the old T2 with a new pier.

What do you mean?

It was supposed to be tunnelled to.

Alternatively you could do what Gatwick have done and have a bridge which the planes go under.

my inderstanding is that the tunned is still well and truly on the cards... it would deffeat the object of having a build in osilation if you bussed people to it...
