We're just debating what the silhouette represents. We're not ejaculating over a 757 at BHX...

About time Stockholm came on board. Great news. Now we just need Olso and Scandinavia is covered. I've flown to Oslo a lot and always had to use Heathrow where the flights are always full, so there must be opportunities.

Great news for BHX. not just Oslo for Scandinavia to be covered, stavenger and Bergen are 2 big cities, and if you wanted to throw the boundary a little bit more north east, Helsinki also needs to be filled.
MAD could come about if IBexpress get a shifty on, but VIE will be a hard one to fill in my opinion. Austrian seem reluctant to move outside of LHR, and any carrier wishing to take in BHX-VIE has Ryanair at BTS to contend with... |

Stavanger and Bergen are nice but tend to rely on the oil and gas industry, so not really relevant to Birmingham, hence there are daily Aberdeen connections to them. I would classify Helsinki as Baltic instead of Scandinavian but it would be a great route for BHX too.

Scavenger and Bergen, whilst having a large proportion of it's traffic based on oil, is not 100% dependent on it. After all SAS already serves MAN-Bergen and is considering a MAN-Stavenger link as part of it's 34 new routes in 2012.
As for Helsinki, the only viable option would be Finnair, combined with it's flybe partnership, small jets and Asian hub connections, thus enabling both O&D traffic and connections. Nobody else could pull it off. The only issue with Finnair is that the OneWorld alliance seems to be keeping well away from BHX? |
