A friend on the Polish forum unearthed this newly restored film showing the old town restoration in part around 1958, although as seen from the eyes of a little girl. Haunting little film kind of reminds me of the Red Balloon in some ways. Enjoy

But there is a tower of the Third Division of Warsaw Fire Service build as a observation post at Nowy Świat 6. I don't know when it was build, but Warsaw Fire Service acquired the building in 1873 from Warsaw Philantropic Society. I doubt philantropists had built that tower

Quality of this vid is amazing! Looks surreal, more like Indiana Jones with action during WW2 then actual after-war footage

All that I can say is; job well done, folks.

Not many war torn countries have done as good a job as Poland did on Warsaw; especially factoring in its ghastly population losses. where almost full on reconstruction was involved.

I think the rebuilding worked far better than other cities after the war, I think the Stalinist neoclassical buildings are the best.

they did blend in very well, it's a shame more of the city was not rebuilt in that style versus the modernism, most of which has been a blight on this city...although it has made for some interesting juxtapositions.

Very true - the Socialist-Realist buildings respected traditional considerations like street walls and the urban experience. The movement that replaced it, which was generally no frills modernism, was compounded by shitty building placement.
