Royal Castle

It looks like he's using that old barrel to flatten out the cement. Is this how they would have done it in the medieval ages? If that's what he's doing then that is one dedicated, old school reconstruction.

Likely, they needed to be creative with the tools and technology available during the reconstruction.

Looking at these old pictures of Warsaw's Old Town reconstruction, and all the effort that went into it, the place seems that much more special.

it is a very special place. Nice to see that some of the original castle existed, that is the cavernous basements and those magnificent vaulted ceilings. If the castle were to be rebuilt today they would not be using bricks but reinforced concrete and details would then be applied and the whole thing insulated and stuccoed. They did use a more authentic technique, original formula for mortar, most of the bricks were freshly fired. There are rumours that bricks were taken from other cities, there may be some truth to it, but on a large scale this would be a huge logistical effort in a country that had more pressing problems. I spoke with the one of the conservators on this and she confirmed that indeed many bricks were salvaged where possible, some ancient bricks were indeed brought in to rebuild the exposed brick of St. John's cathedral, but if you look at pictures closely, you can see that bricks used were new. A lot of the old town does however have original basements.

I've read rumours that bricks from Wroclaw were used to rebuild parts of the Old Town.

Read some came from trashed historic buildings in towns of Szczecin and Malbork. German bricks to replace Polish ones. Vandalism as reparation.

I am aware that the Barbacan was rebuilt in part using bricks from Wroclaw and Nysa.

It was also a convenient excuse to demolish buildings which didn't fit the regime's perspective.

the only bricks they could have used for the Barbican were gothic bricks, so they would have to have been from the same era. This did happen in a few special cases, but generally new bricks were used.

Lazienki (Royal Baths) Park restoration complete. All the infrastructure has been updated, paths repaved with porous and aesthetically pleasing granular material, complete restoration of Palace on the Water, Amphitheatre, Myslewicki Palace and the Orangerie as well as numerous other smaller objects such as the White House. A Chinese garden has been added as a new attraction as a gift from the Chinese people.

The Orangerie interior underwent the biggest transformation with the restoration of a large landscape painting by J. Ch. Kamsetzer and the ceiling has been painted to resemble a blue sky. The Orangerie once again functions as an exhibition space for sculpture. It will feature new plaster cast copies of famous sculptures from Berlin's Gliptotek such the Laocoon with sons and the Belvedere Apollo.
