The Palace of Culture, political and historic connotations aside, is a very impressive landmark of architecture that actual incorporates a lot of Polish folk design motifs in its interiors and provides a lot of cultural and sports facilities still used today. It's scale reminds one more of a Chicago skyscraper from the turn of the century like the Tribune Building.

Impressive landmark of architecture, with a giant ad on its exterior. Welcome to Eastern Europe.

It's culture ad, not commercial.

Still, does it have to be that huge and does it have to stand right on the building? Can't they place a smaller one in front of the entrance?

Or an enclosed balcony. That's my all-time favourite.

from what I understand the new law governing scenery in townscape and the countryside forbids large format signs of any kind...I've seen some large ones disappear recently in Warsaw.

Either way it appears only on some special occasions so it's not that big of a problem, although we know some outdoor people have a wet dream of turning whole palace into giant add. That was their proposition for financing the facade restoration but the city said no.

No. Eastern Europe is like a: "shut up and rejoice that the Palace hasn't been dismantled in the first place!"

Construction of Józef Piłsudski Museum Commences (2017 completion)

Although this is not literally a reconstruction, it is part of Warsaw's and Poland's cultural revitalization. Few Polish leaders in recent history measure up to the stature of this man. He played a key role in defending and rebuilding Poland after it regained independence in 1918. He is credited with fighting alongside the Ukrainian Army to regain Kiev in 1920 from the Russians and in defending Poland and the west from Soviet Russia's plan to invade Europe led by General Mikhail Tukhachevsky's who was famously quoted as having said: "To the West! Over the corpse of White Poland lies the road to worldwide conflagration..." The legendary 'Miracle on the Vistula' battle in August 1920 effectively routed Soviet troops and prevented the Soviet Union's incursion into Europe.

As President he implemented many reforms to modernize Poland and began the tradition of the presidency as being above partisan politics. The main square at the heart of Warsaw is named in his honour. Many other such tributes can seen throughout Poland.

This is a design-build project, only a rough model of it's concept exists.

Restoration of St. John's Cathedral Completed

This was a complete restoration of this sanctuary, among Warsaw's oldest, that has stood on this spot since the 14th century. It was nearly completely obliterated by the Nazis in 1944 as part of their planned destruction of the city leaving only the crypt and some of the walls of the presbytery and altar standing as well as a few shattered epitaphs and reliquaries. The magnificent 16th Century painting by Palma il Giovane depicting the Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist and St. Stanisław was destroyed during German bombing on August 1944. The wooden crucifix in the Baryczka Chapel, brought from Nuremberg in 1539 by the merchant Jerzy Baryczka, considered its most precious artifact did survive.

It's reconstruction is based on its 14th century presumed appearance and a 17th Century Hogenberg illustration as one by Abraham van Booth.

This restoration did not restore the damage but focussed on improvements to the crypts, overall lighting and aesthetics as well as structural and masonry repairs to the walls, foundation and vaulting.
