Update on the Foksal Redevelopment. Nothing glamorous yet. Looks like demolition is complete and what is left is being reinforced.

thanks Bastian

Warsaw is spending a total of 18 million (10 million zloties in the second half of 2016) on restorations and conservation this year. Churches, city apartment houses (kamienice), old town kamienice, cemetaries will get the lion's share. Only in Polish (try google translate). Very pleased that another building along the most intact pre-war streetwall on Jerozolimska is getting money:

and this one where the owner is completing a new office building in the rear courtyard, which you can see in the upper right hand corner of this pic of the new Astoria Building ground level

Are the damages on this building from the war? It look like shrapnel damages:

If so, its amazing Polish didn't destroy it and waited for opportunity to restore it 70 years later.

Interesting pics of Warsaw reconstruction. This is the construction of the new highway tunnel under the old town that was finally able to resolve the traffic bottleneck caused by the road network in and around old town:

facing west, Miodowa Street is the first street in the upper left

looking east towards the Vistula

Copper-roofed Palace to the left

...and even better news is that this hideous Mussolinist hen-house behind Bruhl Palace was destroyed in 1944. It's probably the best thing Germans did to Warsaw in 1939-45

Some interesting pics of Warsaw's post war condition that I have never seen before. Not sure why I am suddenly in the mood to post these types of pics again, maybe Brexit has reminded me why in great part the EU was created:

View of Dekert side - most intact

Kollotaja Side

Kanonia Street

View of the apse of St. John's Cathedral - the most intact part of this ruin

Koszyki Hall Update:

wonder if the exposed brick walls will be the final treatment or if it will be stuccoed. I like the bricks, so neatly layed and mortared.

building going up to fill in this important corner
